HomeMy WebLinkAboutRE Mitigating community agitation Re How will our city adapt to climate changeRay, Thank You for your ideas. You always think beyond most of us. Yes, I agree very much with an opportunity to share plans to improve our communication with our residents. At this point in time, we do not know how many trees, or which ones will be affected; as we don’t know the location of the proposed Building, until they bring the site plan to apply for the Building Permit. The only picture we have seen was presented at the Community Appearance Board, and it was only am artist conception of the design; in order for the Community Appearance Board to review if the proposed Design would be in Harmony with the current designs of the desired area. I made a trip to Altamonte Springs today; to meet with the same Group that held all the meetings for our Vision Plan, (The East Central Regional Planning Council). This is also the Planning Group that is preparing the Plan for Satellite Beach. They will prepare a plan for our City, and they have Grants available to apply for, just as other Cities have done. I will share this information with our City Manager for a future City Council item. Also, the mitigation trees required, if any, could be planted to benefit almost any other location that had an area to accommodate future growth of the tree. Thanks for suggesting ideas for the future, Rocky From: Ray Osborne [mailto:rko153@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 21, 2015 1:28 PM To: Rocky Randels Subject: Mitigating community agitation, Re: How will our city adapt to climate change? Thanks Rocky, for your thoughtful reply. I've always appreciated how you reach out and listen to the citizens of our city. First off, I thought those hi risers were in the neighboring city Indian Harbor but maybe I am mistaken, Another area I want to discuss which I think is very important to our city is reducing the amount of community agitation. You may be aware that there are always many in the community who get agitated with some new development. Last year it was the helicopter and this year it is Cumberland Farms. I have some ideas and I am sure other do, that I think may help. One idea that I think would be inexpensive and easy for the city to implement pertains to the removal of specimen trees. Perhaps we can save the acorns and seeds from these trees for a seed bank. That way property owners can get free seeds from the city to plant on their grounds. This would result in smaller trees but the same variety and species of trees that grew here for hundreds of years and that were removed. Just thinking aloud with you here, what do you think of this idea? But also the whole idea of seeing how we can mitigate community agitation. <https://mailfoogae.appspot.com/t?sender=acmtvMTUzQGdtYWlsLmNvbQ%3D%3D&t ype=zerocontent&guid=7fe62e65-4812-4fa0-a36a-8c69b9239347> ᐧ On Mon, Jan 19, 2015 at 7:26 PM, Rocky Randels <R.Randels@cityofcapecanaveral.org <mailto:R.Randels@cityofcapecanaveral.org> > wrote: Ray, Thank you , I was able to open the site to Satellite Beach, and review their progress on Sea Level Rise. I don’t understand how all the new high rise Condos were permitted on the Ocean; east of A.1.A. with that strong an Ordinance. I notice that their efforts were to discourage; and later crossed out for areas in the Costal High Hazard Area . It is a challenge between the owners of the land who want to build on their land; and the Cities who try to protect the desires of their residents. Dear Mayor, I looked around and found that our neighbor city Satellite Beach also did their research and came up with some plans and an ordinance. I thought you may find this interesting. Maybe some pointers we can consider too. http://www.georgetownclimate.org/resources/satellite-beach-sea-level-ri se-comprehensive-plan-recommendations On Tue, Jan 13, 2015 at 12:07 PM, Ray Osborne <rko153@gmail.com <mailto:rko153@gmail.com> > wrote: Hello Mayor Rocky, Recently I saw a report on a climate change seminar that Jeff Ratliff went to late last year. Did you get chance to review it? I am glad to see our city take proactive steps in this direction as many Florida communities are already involved with climate change adaption policies. I believe we should include this discussion topic on how our city will be preparing for climate change at future meetings. I'd like to send you links and article on this topic now and then as I will be bringing it up at upcoming city council meetings and would welcome your thoughts on it.
