Youth Center Food Program
The local VFW Post has committed to providing healthy food and snacks items to the children who attend
the Cape Canaveral Youth Center for one year. A big thank you goes out to the Commander and the
generous members who approved this partnership.
Santa Letters
Parents were able to request a letter for their child by completing a hint form available at Recreation
Complex and online. Thirty-seven excited children received customized letters straight "from Santa" sent
to their homes.
Monthly Beach Cleanups with Sea Turtle Preservation Society
The Sea Turtle Preservation Society has "adopted" the part of Cape Canaveral's beach from Cherie Down
Park to the jetty. Starting in 2015, a local resident affiliated with the STPS began hosting monthly beach
clean-ups. The STPS provided gloves, bags, safety equipment and bottled water for each event. The first
event, held January 31, boasted 34 participants. The clean-ups are open to volunteers of all ages and are
eligible to be logged as community service hours for those seeking to fulfill such requirements.

19th Annual Reindeer Run 5k
The l9th annual Reindeer Run was a big success. Enlisting more than 450 participants, the event raised
over $1 1,000 for Brevard County's Police Athletic League. Sheriff Wayne Ivey kicked off the race and
the morning was capped with Santa's arrival on the fire truck. A children's fun run also took place,
adding to the family friendly atmosphere of the event. Leisure Services Staff and BCSO PAL handled
parking which mostly took place at Cape View Elementary and Cherie Down Park. Because of all the
preemptive messaging about street closures, Staff encountered no issues from impacted residents on the
morning of the race.
Lieht UP Cave Canaveral
The 2nd annual "Light Up Cape Canaveral" event was held Saturday, December 6th, 6-8 pm, at
Xeriscape Park across the street from the Recreation Complex. Activities included holiday
music, refreshments, crafts for the kids, performances by Cape View Elementary choir & The
Dickens Carolers, lighting of Xeriscape Park and a visit from Santa. A special Thank You to the
Cape Canaveral Volunteer Fire Department, the Cape Canaveral Library Staff and BCSO P.A.L.
