---.----. - " _ , , ,i, • • MICROFIL MED 148.83 RESOLUTION NO. 82-60 A RESOLUTION URGING LEGISLATION TO PERMIT A COMMUNITY SERVICES TAX ON TRANSIENT RENTALS IN _CITIES, AND UNINCORPORATED AREAS IMPACTED BY TRANSIENT POPULATIONS; URGING FLORIDA LEAGUE OF CITIES SUPPORT; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, Florida' s "resort development" tax law provides nothing whatever for the comfort, amenity, convenience, or safety of U . tourists, vacationers, and other transients; and WHEREAS , municipalities and county areas impacted by large transient populations need revenue to provide the increased services, such as police, fire, rescue, traffic control, park maintenance, and others which benefit transients, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by- the City Council of the City of. Cape Canaveral, Florida: SECTION 1. The City of Cape Canaveral urges the Florida Legislature to amend Florida Statute Chapter 212 to provide for a community services tax on the rentals of transient facilities, with the following specifications: . . a) adoptable by voter referendum, by any municipality or county unincorporated area which feels the need; b) 2 percent on the gross rental of transient facilities as defined in §212 . 03; c) collectable in the same manner and returned to each taxing jurisdiction where originated in the same manner as the general sales tax authorized by Florida Statute Chapter 212; 0d) revenue use rigidly limited to local services the need for which is expanded by a transient' population. SECTION 2.. The City of Cape Canaveral further urges the . Florida League of Cities to support such legislation by resolution, by incorporation into the League ' s legislative policy statement, and by active campaigning among Florida. Legislators. SECTION 3.
