RESOLUTION NO. 81-41
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL REQUESTING
THE GOVERNOR AND THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA
I TO ADOPT LEGISLATION AUTHORIZING A ONE-HALF PERCENT LOCAL
OPTION SALES TAX; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the cities of the State of Florida are faced with dwindling
sources of revenue; and
WHEREAS, expenses are ever increasing for the cities of the State
of Florida; and
WHEREAS, the legislature in its 1981 regular session failed to pro-
vide any additional means of financing local governments; and
WHEREAS, the legislature has found it necessary to impose several
limitations on the revenue raising ability of local governments which
creates a continuing atmosphere of impending crisis in the delivery of
local government services;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE City Council of the City of
Cape Canaveral, Florida, as follows;
SECTION 1. The Governor and legislature of the State of Florida are
hereby urged to adopt legislation authorizing a one-half percent local
option sales tax.
SECTION 2. The revenues from the sales tax be authorized for general
fund purposes such as law enforcement, utility services and transportation.
SECTION 3 . That such sales tax revenues be distributed in ayf,,aLp? and
equitable manner between city and county governments based on county-wide
collections and distributed on a pro-rata basis determined by population.
SECTION 4 . That copies of this Resolution be sent to the Governor of
the State of Florida, Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives,, ,
President of the Florida Senate, and the Executive Director of the i
Florida League of. Cities.
SECTION 5 . This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its

ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida,
this 21 day of July , 1981.
