RESOLUTION NO. 80-6
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE PROPOS1L) ROAD TO PLAYALINDA
BEACH; PROVIDING EFFECTIVE DATE
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, presently and
in the past has continually supported the public's right to beach access;
and
WHEREAS, because of the Space Shuttle operation, SR 402, which

provides the sole access to Playalinda Beach from North Brevard, will be
closed to the public at least 3970 of the time in 1982; and is expected to
be closed all of the time by 1986, as same lies within a three-mile radius
of the launch pads at Kennedy Space Center; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral is concerned that all citizens
have adequate recreation facilities available and be entitled to enjoy the
natural beauty of the North Brevard beaches; and
WHEREAS, construction of a road north and parallel to SR 402
and a bridge over the southern tip of Mosquito Lagoon will provide continued
beach access to Playalinda Beach and the southern half of the Canaveral
National Seashore Park for citizens and visitors of Brevard County.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL,
1. Does hereby unanimously urge the Congress of the United
States to appropriate the necessary funds for construction of a road to
Playalinda Beach; and
2. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon its
adoption.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral,
