Subject: Cumberland Farms development project in Cape Canaveral
Dear Ms. Apperson:
Attached to this email as a PDF file is a letter from the Brevard
County Historical Commission, an official advisory committee to the
Brevard County Commission, regarding the proposed development of a
Cumberland Farms service station in the city of Cape Canaveral, FL.
This letter expresses our concern that significant archaeological and
historical resources might be located on the property in question, and
that a 2006 survey of this property by Environmental Services Inc. of
Jacksonville FL only surveyed the western half of the property. ESI
found a relatively undisturbed prehistoric occupation site on the
eastern half of the property but did not test any portions of the
eastern half of the property, the proposed location of a future
Cumberland Farms facility.
Therefore, it is the unanimous opinion of the Brevard County Historical
Commission that an archaeological survey be conducted on the eastern
portion of this property prior to any development or ground disturbance.
Please let me know if you have any problems downloading the attached
PDF--I can re-send it in Microsoft Word if that is better for you.
thank you for your time and attention,
Alan Brech
Chairman, Brevard County Historical Commission
