We cannot see into our future but we can plan ahead for our community, for the
betterment of our citizens and the beauty of our surroundings
We are a small town with one of the most unique history's of any town, city or
community in the world that includes beaches unequalled anywhere.
We are responsible for decisions made here today that will effect our children,
grandchildren and those we will never know but will look back and be grateful for the
care we took with our responsibilities.
For those reasons I ask the Board to consider a study program, to include workshops, with
members of our board, citizens and interested people to create a Cape Canaveral Center
for the Arts.
The first question of course will always be how this could be funded. It's completely
obvious our City, State and Country are having extreme financial problems at the moment
and I emphasize moment because it is temporary. If we plant the seeds of a Center for
the Arts now and begin the strategy necessary to build it we will be ready when the time
arrives to ask for funding. Our State has an extremely viable Arts Program with money
offered every year and especially for new programs where none exit at present. We have
our own programs in the County and hopefully the city will offer a share and especially
when the benefits are brought to focus which include:
Tangible Returns for Cape Canaveral
Quotes from Florida Today 10/11/12 by Wayne T. Price
Brevard County's arts and cultural organizations generated nearly $73 million in local
sales last year and were responsible for more than 855 jobs.
You always want to promote the cost of doing business when a company decides to
expand or relocate, but then there's the soft side when an executive thinks " Do I want my
family to come here and my children to grow up here?
A vibrant and successful arts and culture scene can play a vital role in recruiting new
companies and talent to the area.
A Center for the Arts will not only enrich our community but add to all aspects of our
lives to include:
Music : Symphony orchestra events and a facility for music teachers to share their
knowledge with paying students ji all forms of mu.sic.
Dance: Ballet, and any other form of dance our citizens request with the availability of
teachers.
Visual Arts: Teachers and paying students and a place to display.
Our National Gallery of Art has extension programs which can be made available to our
town and they are free,
Tangible return for Cape Canaveral
The need for supplies for these programs will make it profitable for individuals to open
stores to support the arts, music stores, art supplies and others will add to our economy.
We will draw not just from our own town but all surrounding towns as our programs
become more well known,
see our future with an outstanding beautiful building when one enters to be
overwhelmed with beauty, a place to display our history, for our community to meet, for
our elected officials to gather for events, to hear a symphony orchestra and to view art
from our National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., traveling art programs, people
working in the arts including clay, paint, and all the above mentioned and many I'm sure
I haven't thought of in this presentation, It will be the heart of Cape Canaveral.
I ask for permission to begin the study group and set up a meeting date and place, to ask
Florida Today to place the information in the paper so our citizens can hear about it and
any other form of cornraunication available to put the word out and see if we have enough
interest to proceed,
Respectfully

To the Arts and Recreation Board,
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
1 know that you are considering proposals for an arts
initiative for Cape Canaveral. The value of this proposal
is that it creates a framework for the future, by engaging
a wide constituency that would participate in its
governance, as well s be a potential source for funding.
It is an inclusive proposal while not being exclusive.
The proposal is ayiew to the future that believes in
strong leadership, based on working with our partners
in the community to build at arts initiative that not only
benefits the artists, but also benefits the entire
community in both direct and indirect ways.
1 thank you in advance for taking time out of your busy
schedules to review this proposal.
Thanks you.

Re: Arts Proposal
An incomplete fr. mework for now, and a foundation for the
future: The Cape Canaveral Arts Alliance.
Beliefs:
The Cape Canaveral Arts Alliance believes that support for the arts is
crucial to the health and vitality of any city. Art and culture enhance the
quality of life for every citizen and help build a stronger sense of
community identity.
Vision:
As the proposed umbrella organization for all of the arts in our
community, The Cape Alliance will promote, nurture, and celebrate the
arts in our community through interactive participation with our schools,
civic organizations, businesses, citizens and artists.
Mission:
To create a world class art association that works collaboratively with the
City of Cape Canaveral, its residents, businesses, schools and artists to
create an environment, that makes the City of Cape Canaveral a better
place to live.
Strategic limitations:
1. We work in support of and in conjunction with the City of Cape Canaveral.
2. We will accept no initiatives or activities without; A favorable cost analysis,
And a defined evaluation process.
3. We will not tolerate any action or circumstances that degrades any person.
4. We will develop programs for the arts in response to community needs and
interests.
Self Evaluation and ongoing process
Self Evaluation and growth based goals are related to our stated mission.
a. What are our strengths?
b. What are our weaknesses?
c. What are the local and national events that will impact on us?
d. What competion will we face?
A Starting point:
1. Meet with the Arts and Recreation Board for support and approval of the
concept.
2. Meet with the City Council for support and approval of the concept.
3. Select a non paid executive director to move this to the next levels.
4. Appoint a Cape Canaveral Arts League Board - 7 members. Final approval
needed by the Arts and Recreation Board, and City Council.
5. Obtain input from:
1. Arts and leisure council
ii. The City Council
iii. Parent organizations
iv. Residents meetings
v. Condo Presidents
vi. The Art Community
6. Create the goals (3-4) and the strategies that will support those goals.
The Goal: To have an organization that
ourishes the arts in the Cape Canaveral
Co kunity by working in partnership
ith all of its stakeholders.

Respectfully youea

What programs does our elementary school offer to students with regards to music, dance
and art?
What private and city- arts programs are currently offered in Cape Canaveral? Is there an
organized community arts group in the City of Cape Canaveral?
What rental time is available for the arts at our city owned properties, such as the Nancy
Hanson Recreational Facility, Cape View or Public Library? Is there an Arts Group in
our community to help develop programs should it be determined there is a need and
their willingness to fund such programs'?
Are we certain that the National Gallery of Arts would offer extension programs and
would they include art, music and dance or only art'?
Recommendations:
1. Determine what community facilities are available for start up programs.
2. Find an organized arts group with 501-C3 status or private company to undertake
the development of needed programs, funding for programs, program reporting
and functioning under the control of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida.
After the investigation of program needs, who will be qualified to teach specific
programs?
4. Determine when and where these approved programs will be conducted and the
cost associated.
S. What student fees would be established and what outside funding from an
organized arts group for rent, teachers, supplies and program development.
