ADVISORY BOARD DRAFT MINUTES 3-23-13
CAPE CANAVERAL LIBRARY MEETING ROOM

CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Petre called the meeting to order at 5:30. Motion was made to
excuse Ms. Michel because she called to say she was taking care of her ill elderly parents
in Philadelphia. Ms. Robinson seconded, the motion passed unanimously.
APPROVAL: Mr. Raymond made the motion to accept the minutes from the March 26,
2013 meeting. Mr. Dattilo seconded, the motion passed unanimously.
STAFF REPORTS: Mr. Vergara reviewed the Culture and Leisure Services Advisory
Board Staff Report which summarized events such as Friday Fest, National Kids to Parks
Day, Reindeer Run and Back to School Jamboree. Summer Camp program and the
addition of new classes. Meetings with FPL to install new lighting around the recreation
center for security reasons. City Engineer regarding improvements to Banana River Park.
Also scheduled is a meeting with Cape View Elementary School's new principal to
discuss the Back to School Jamboree and the possibility of hosting summer camp there in
2014. He also explained the maintenance that was going on at the parks and the
vandalism problem. Ms. Robinson asked when the backpacks will get stuffed with school
supplies. Discussion ensued.
OLD BUSINESS: Mr. Petre thanked Ms. Woodside for her report on an arts center that
was given at the last meeting. There were no questions. She responded that it would be a
failure to not research it and asked permission to start a study group which she thinks is
the place to start. Mr. Petre recommended that Mr. Schoenholz's report be tabled at this
meeting since he was absent. Mr. Petre asked what Cape View Elementary School
offered kids and read his report which is attached and made part of these minutes. He also
told Ms. Woodside that Ms. Michel indicated that she would be interested in joining the
study group. Mr. Petre suggested a group of five people form a fact finding committee.
PUBLIC INPUT: None
NEW BUSINESS: Mr. Petre commented that there was a conflict concerning how often
the Board meets. He indicated that the previous director recommended every three
months at that time there was no opposition. At the January 22, 2013 the board discussed
meeting every other month on the fourth Tuesday. Mr. Vergara suggested a motion be
made to reflect this decision. Mr. Petre made the motion that the Culture and Leisure
Services Advisory Board meet on the fourth Tuesday every other month, Ms. Robinson
seconded. Motion carried 4 in favor 1 against.
ADJOURNMENT: With no further business to conduct Mr. Petre asked for an
adjournment to which Mr. Raymond moved to adjourn the meeting, Ms. Woodside
seconded. Mr. Petre adjourned the meeting at 6:15pm. Next meeting is scheduled for July
23, 2013.
