CALL TO ORDER: Chairman Gene Petre called the meeting to order at 5:30PM.
APPROVAL:
1. Doug I'' aymond made a motion to approve the Recreation Board minutes from the
January 25, 2011 meeting. Stephanie Robinson seconded the motion. The motion was
passed.
DIRECTOR REPORT:
2. Director Robert Lefever reviewed the fiscal year report. There were no questions from
the Board.
3. The Recreation budget was reviewed. Stephanie Robinson asked if the program
budget is gross income or the 25% of the split. She was informed it was 25% that the City
retains and that the instructors keep 75%. The City also retains the additional $3.00 per
person for non-resident rate.
4. Robert Lefever discussed the department's reorganization. The part time positions
have been dissolved and two new full time positions have been added to help the
department be more efficient. The two positions went into effect on October ist:
Recreation Programmer who is responsible for the organization, promotion and
mplementation of multiple recreational, special event activities and athletic leagues.
Maintenance Specialist who is responsible for janitorial, irrigation, safe
inspections of parks and recreation buildings, softball and Little League fields.
DISCUSSION:
5. There was a brief discussion concerning the Dog Park which was on the top five wish
list of the visioning statement. City Council will evaluate the Manatee Sanctuary Park
site plan.
6. Gene Petre asked how many Friday Fests had to be cancelled. Director Robert Lefever
and Joyce Hamilton answered that since the first one on March 511' 201.0 only two had to
be cancelled because of rain. A resent "Letter to The Editor" regarding Friday Fest
costing the tax payers was addressed by Robert Lefever. He said there is not a cost to the
City, it is generating revenue and local businesses also profit. Gene Petre and John
Dattilo responded by saying the Recreation Department was doing a great job regarding
the quality and growth of the Friday Fest Family Street Party.
7. Gene Petre suggested the Board mark their calendars for the January meeting and
election of officers.
REPORTS: NEW/OLD BUSINESS
8. Gene Petre asked how the P.A.L. program was doing. Robert Lefever informed the
Board that the program is doing very well with 50 active members. Gene Petre also asked
about the upcoming Reindeer Run 5K walk/run. Robert Lefever informed the Board that
the race was now a part of the 3 Holidays, 3 Classic Races. The beach communities of
Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach will promote the three races and when racers run in all
three they will earn the Holiday Beach Classic medal which will be given out at the last
race, which is the Reindeer Run. He also stated that the beneficiary has changed from the
United Way to the the P.A.L. All three races benefit the youth of our communities. Joyce
Hamilton indicated that the Kiwanis Club will be offering coffee at the race.
ADJOURNMENT:
There being no further discussion business before the Board, John Datillo moved that the
meeting be adjourned. The motion was seconded Stephanie Robinson and passed by the
Board members present. Gene Petre adjourned the meeting at 6:10.
