Box 326 Cape Canaveral, Florida 32920 321-868-1226 rl efever[ccfl . rr. com PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT REPORT JUNE & JULY 2010 We are in week 10 of Summer Camp & things are running smoothly. The turnout has been outstanding & we continually had to turn people away because we are filled to capacity. Next year we would like to explore options to expand. This would involve a larger facility & more staff. This can be discussed at a future meeting. The Racquetball Court lighting project is completed & was done $1,845.00 under budget, leaving enough money to have the courts painted. Bids were accepted in June & the contract was awarded to DAB Painting of Brcvard for $1,975.00. Draft budgets have been presented to Council & as the process continues to move forward I will be presenting the non-resident rates & corporate rates for Manatee Park to Council at the September 7th meeting, with the attempt to have them in place for the next fiscal year beginning October 13` Council officially approved Douglas Raymond has a regular board member & Chris Hale as the 1 st alternate board member. The June 4th Friday Fest was cancelled due to inclement weather. The July 2" `1 Friday Fest was a huge success boasting the largest attendance yet. An estimated 800 people were on hand to enjoy live music from Vintage The Band, Beer & wine sales were at a high topping $2,234,00. After expenses the Recreation Department made a net profit of $1,747,00. The August 6th Friday Fest will bring the sounds of The Band One which should bring another big turnout. Flag Football & Co-ed Softball will resume their seasons in late August. Other Events & Activities: • June 28tr, Movie in the Park — 100 people • July 1 6u1 Movie in the Park — 250 people • July 17th Skate Jam — 30 kids The Kids Community Awareness Day will be held this Saturday, July 31 Bt from 10:00 am — 2:00 pm. The Recreation Director attended the Executive Leadership Institute seminar on July 22nd.
