Subject: my concerns
Dear City Leaders, I would like to share with you some of my thinking
for offering permits for construction of a major gas station at Cape
Shores' southern boundary. 1. The point of necessity: we have 8
service stations within our 3 mile radius already. We don't need
another one. 2. Crime: Service stations in central Florida are
notorious for being robbed and people injured or killed. 3. The safety
feature: too many pedestrians and bike riders use the sidewalk on this
strip. Someone is going to be injured. 4. Traffic: Already we are
encountering backup traffic problems especially on the weekends with the
west lane of A1A being blocked by cars trying to enter Enterprise rental
car lot, the delivery trucks for Dollar General, let alone huge fuel
delivery trucks for this proposed site. 5. The site is too narrow for
such a development. Once the fuel trucks have entered this property,
how is it going to turn around? How are garbage trucks going to turn
around? 6. Noise: The sound from trucks, motorcycles, and people will
be horrendous. 7. Lighting: Our southern most building will be
inundated with light pollution. 7. Retention pond: Even if this is a
dry pond, eventually it will be filled with water bring the possibility
of disease to our area due to increase of mosquitoes, snakes, raccoons,
and other nuances. 8. Decreasing our property values: Who wants to
live or raise their family next to a service station? 9. Removal of
trees: There are 12 specimen trees right now on this property. They
provide us with much needed shade which lowers our temperatures in the
summer. They help filter the air we breathe and create more oxygen.
They provide a habitat for wildlife and a understory for plants that
live only in a Maritime Oak Hammock. 10. Foul air quality. Every time
a vehicle is filled with fuel, some of the polluted air escapes into the
air. Please consider my concerns in any decisions that you may make.
