HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 3-28-79March 28, 1979 CAPE CANAVERAL RECREATION BOARD MINUTES The meeting was convened on March 28, 19?9 at the Cape Canaveral Recreation Complex at 7:30 p.m. In attendance were Board. members: Mare, Meilleur, Nicholas, Rhame, Riggs, and Welton. Member absent: Butler. Also in attendance were Mrs. Hanson, Mr. Murphy, And Mr. Dave Rhame. A letter from Mr. Bira was entered in the February minutes on a motion by Mr. Welton. Meilleur seconded. With this addition, the minutes Iron the February meeting were approved on a motion made by Riggs, and Nicholas second. Mr. Dave Rhame maae an appearance to request court time to allow the newly formed Cape Canaveral Tennis Assn.(CCTA) to hold a tournament. This tournament is not open to the public, but is intended to allow the CCTA to set up a formal ladder. Therefore, only members of the CCTA are eligable to play. The CCTA requested the use of three(3) tennis courts from 8:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. This request was for 42 court hours. Meilleur moVed to allow the Cape Canaveral Tennis Assn. to use three tennis courts from b:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. Rhame seconded. Passed unanimously. Directors Report. In addition to the written report submitted, the following additions were made: Lights are up and working at the h°`#:;.:ball area. Dixon Electric will realign the right field lights at the ball park. Three poles are bad, and need to be replaced. A survey is coming concerning traffic in the immediate areasurrounding the ball field. City Council Request --Racquetball Courts. This continuing item of unfinished business proceeaect with the input from Mrs. Hanson concerning proposed public and private facilities to be built in Brevatd County. Mr. Meilleur is to research the growth of racquetball in the area, and try to project the utilization , ix additional courts were made available. Together with turn down figures; general population growth, the Recreation Board must come up with a projected usage if two more courts are construo..ea. Mr. Welton is to address the possible location of additional courts, and the affect this construction will have on the complex in general. Mrs. Hanson isto submit estimates of additional costs with this new construction. No final action was taken on this item. Page 2 March minutes A request was made to use the tennis courts during the Life and Breath tournament Saturday, September 8, 1979, from 8:00 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. All five courts were requested. Mr. Mare moved to honor the request. Mr. Riggs seconded. All in favor. Mr. Mare moved that the Recreation Board recommend that City Council donate the court time necessary for the Life & Breath tournament. Mr. Meilleur seconded. .A11 in favor. Mrs. Hanson is to submit a letter on this subject for City Council consideration. Mrs. Hanson requested to agenda under new business the approval of capital expenditure. Discussion. Dave Rhame made note that the lines on the basketball court were painted incorrectly. He will get the proper measurements to Mr. Murphy, who will get the lines repainted. Ms. Riggs said that there may be a Girls Little League tournament, but the dates are not yet known. Mr. Welton made note that the basketball lights were not in yet. The proposed park area to the East of the Capeview Elementary School was discussed. It was noted that presently the County holds title to the land. The meeting was adjourned at 9:05.
