Vote to be GREEN!! >> >> Dear Mayor Randels, >> >> I have been a resident in Brevard county since 1984 and of Cape Canaveral since 1987 and have voted every year. I had many choices when I first moved to this area and worked on Merritt Island at the high school and resided in Cocoa Beach on Ocean Beach Blvd. >> >> I was drawn to purchase my home in Cape Canaveral because it was a city that had lots of opportunity to build and grow. There was lots of land that was undeveloped. I was especially attracted to my current residence in Cape Shores condominium because most condos were a concrete jungle in Cocoa Beach and there weren't many choices in Cape Canaveral 25 years ago. We moved from an ocean front two story condo in Cocoa Beach to get away from the tourism and traffic in Cocoa Beach. We chose to reside on the Banana River to access our desire to sail and use the river and all the nature and wildlife around the area. I loved Cape Shores beautiful scenery and entrance and preservation of the historical environment and two story residence. We opted to stay with condominium living since we were childless and decided it would be our retirement home. >> >> We have been involved in the community with my husband, Joe Elliott, serving as president of Cape Shores condo and as a volunteer on the Planning and Zoning board in the city of Cape Canaveral. I also own a business in Merritt Island by Home Depot, called Bikram Yoga on the Island. As a yogi, it is important that we breathe fresh air and value the trees on our earth that ground us and protect us and provide quality air for us to breathe. For 5000 year yogis have practiced a yoga posture called Tree Pose to represent the importance and value of the trees on our planet that help to filter our air and provide oxygen and energy to us humans and wildlife to sustain life on earth. Without them we die! >> >> We must take a stand for the oak hammock located in south Cape Canaveral, the last grove located on A1A, that has survived humans and storms way before Cape Canaveral was established as a city. This environmental haven is home to several wildlife creatures, like the Indigo snake, that is protected by the state of Florida. Cape Canaveral has nine gas stations in their one mile radius of the city. A gas station with 16 pumps will cause damage to our lagoon and affect our wildlife in the Banana River, as well as cause more pollution and run off. >> >> I've heard you state "there is a responsibility to maintain and continue quality of life that we now enjoy, preserving the community appeal that is the reason many of us live here". That is a beautiful statement and I, too, feel strongly about that and have always supported YOU in every election. Do you and our Council Members plan to continue to implement our city's vision of "becoming a live-able, bike-able, walk-able residential and business friendly atmosphere that is an attractive, safe, secure, and sustainable coastal community embracing the beach and riverside as the main amenities, supporting local culture and education." ? >> >> Is the city of Cape Canaveral so desperate for economic growth and business to approve another gas station instead of a business that would keep our beauty and be more green to our earth? What example are we setting and leaving for the future and teaching our children as city leaders? >> >> I understand the City Council meets next week to approve the removal of the trees. Is this correct? Please do NOT support this development. >> >> Sent from my iPad >> >> Suzanne Elliott, M.A., Ed. >> Director/Owner >> Bikram Yoga on the Island >> 321-452-YOGA >> www.BikramYoga MI.com Florida has a very broad public records law.
