CAPE CANAVERAL RECREATION BOARD RE[TI0r,
January 23, 1980
Members present: C. Welton, 3. Nicholas, M. Rhamo,
D. Pressley, T. MeiIIeur and S. Riggs
Members absent: S. Butler, S. Mare and D. Brogdon

Meeting was called to order at 8;15 p.m~
Motion was made to accept the November minutes by S. Riggs, sec-
onded by J. Nicholas, passed unanimously.
personal Appearance
' Report from Task Associates: Representative J. Ribar presented
the board with the blue prints for the new racquetball/handball
courta with the changes the board had requested From the existing
courts. He also presented the board with o detailed package of
the layout, changes, specifications, cost breakdowns and the cost
estimates For the modifications to existing courts. Total coot
of building 2 new courts should be around 346'500 plus a margin
of about 20 "/ profit, according to Mr. Ribar~ Discussion folIqmed.
Now Business
Chairman Nil -ton explained to B. Williams, of the Little ioogoo,
that last year the city spent 1.20,000 to prepare and operate the

announcers booth on the major league field, electrical work on the

�a' reported leaking oil Ieot year but as far as we can tell it is
not leaking. We will have to have n professional check it out, if
it is not leaking, we might hold off for emhiIo^ Chairman Welton
told Williuma that there are only a few things he asks the league
to do in return 1\ teach the children good sportsmanship and give
them good entertainment 2\ clean up the dugouts and fields after
the games and }\ do not allow alcoholic beverages at the park.
He also told he' if the league has any problems that the city
can help them with, pI2aaO contact Director N. Hanson.
DirectorHanson relayed some requests from D~VVroiOov grounds
keeper: 1\ do not let anyone climb the fences 2\ have an adult
present i' the announcers booths at all times. 5ho also told
Williams that there have been no keys returned for the locks on
' the fences and ask that little league got them back so they
could have keys for this year.
The flag pole has been installed. The pfirman family are waiting
for the plaoquo, due date is February 20th.
Opening day for Litt -le League will be [111aroh 15th, Welton said
the firemen should be commended for the job they are doing in
building the dugouts.
Directors Report
'Hanson reported that there have been no bids as of yet on the
electrical work to be done at the park~ The job is a small one
and has not generated any interest. Nothing to report on the
recreation oomplay pImcquo~ D. 8ragdon was to check with Bravard
Community College but was not present to give his findings. Tabled
until next meeting.
Review of the first quarter budget shows all accounts are doing well.
Discussion items
Hanson r,apnrto6 that Ron Yankn contacted her and would like the use
of our tennis courts on March 1st from q a.m. until 5 p,m, for the
Cocoa Beach Tennis Association's Junior Tournament. Motion was
made by T. Mailleor to allow the Association the use of the 5
tennis nourto/ at the going rate, on March 1st. Seconded by
M. Rhame, passed unanimously.
Belton reported that S. Mare had contacted the director an to his
intent to resign from the board. He stated that he mould send a
letter to the hoard,
Cocoa Beach High School will be holding m tennis tournament in
April. Welton asked Hanson to check with Coach Stiles as to the
dates oil the tournament and if our courts might be available if
needed. If there is no conflict in the complexes' schedule,
Belton recommended our courts be offered to the school for
-their tourney. Welton then mode m motion that the Board recommend
to City Council that the city offer the use of our tennis courts
to Cocoa Beach High School for their tournament and that the
usual fee be moived. Seconded by S. Rngga, passed unanimously.
D. Pressley made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by
M. Rheme-
moeting adjourned at 10 p.m.
