MINUTES
CAPE CANAVERAL LIBRARY BOARD MEETING
July 12, 1988
Chairman Grady called the meeting to order at 2:02 p.m.
Board members present were: Chairman Grady, Hilma Goff, Pat Stenglein and
Ernestine Butte, Sec'y pro-tem. Also present, Midge Stonebrook, Director and
Leo Nicholas, CC City Manager. Elaine Sheridan, Diana Dolan, Gene Stanbrough
called in advance, unable to attend.
Mrs. Stenglein moved minutes be approved as submitted, 2nd. and carried.
Director's report as per written report on file. Also reported she attended
a special meeting for all directors with Mr. Wahl & Mrs. Stewart. There will
be a possible reorganization of libraries; making us a separate department.
This requires a public hearing to change the administrative code. Summer
children's program seems to be a success. Showed us a copy of the report pre-
pared by a committee consisting of Frank Harris (Melbourne Library) , Catherine
Schweinsberg (Cocoa Library) and Karen Nelson (Palm Bay Library) . This "Request
for Proposal" will give vendors the opportunity to submit bids on our new
on-line library equipment.
On the new library building developments,-Mr. Nicholas and Mrs. Stonebrook had
a meeting with Mr. Jeffers, the architect. It has been decided that the
interior walls will be white, with blue and mauve accents, and charcoal colored
carpeting. Outside is to be off white with bronze aluminum trim. Cement on
roof is being poured today. Florida Power & Light will move pole from front
of building as will SouthernBell, placing them across the street.
Next County Library Meeting will be July 14th at 7:30 p.m. at the Cocoa Library.
Mrs. Stonebrook stunned us with the announcement she wassubmittingher applica-
tion for the new Port St. John Library, not that she is unhappy here, but feels
it will give her a career opportunity not often available to start a new library
from the beginning in a new community. She was high in herpraiseof her staff
and board here and showed appreciation for the cooperation everyone had given
here in Cape Canaveral and assured us her only reason wastoneet another career
challenge. Mrs. Stewart has told her she would have an answer by August 1st.
Mr. Grady wanted to include a memorandum from the City on board appointment
policy as of March 1, -1988 as follows:
On March 1, 1988, the City Council adopted the following policy:
"The City Council will make board appointments without a recommendation _
from the Board. Council members may contact current board members and the
prospective board members prior to the appointments being made." Patrick T. Lee,
Mayor.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 3:02 p,m.
Ernestine butte, Sec'y Pro-tem
