Meeting Minutes May 8, 2014
1. Call to Order
The regular meeting of the Cape Canaveral Library Board was held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 and called
to order at 2:04 pm by Chairperson Linda Brown.
The following members were present:
Linda Brown, Chairperson
Jean Deck, Secretary
Evelin Reid, Library Board Member
Joanna Atwood, Library Board Member
Al Moe, Library Board Member
Mary Ernst, Library Board Member
Also present:
Jenny Morrison, Library Director
Marcy Shaw, Recording Secretary
Gustavo Vergara, Director, City of Cape Canaveral Leisure Services
Absent:
Marilyn Nicholas, Library Board Member
a. Approval of Minutes
Evelin Reid made a motion to approve the March 13, 2014 minutes, Joanna Atwood seconded the
motion. Motion carried unanimously as approved and accepted,
b. Chairperson's Report
Chairperson Linda Brown discussed term limits for board members
c. Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public Library Report
Jean Deck reported on the balance of the FRIENDS checking account — $19,500; expense's to -date
$1,200; income this year $7,000.
FRIENDS have revised their sale procedure. Their last sale went extremely well. The next sale will be the
Book Bag sale (shopping bags) on May 30th and 31"t. Cost will be $3.00 per bag. The next big book sale
will be a lobby sale in September (26h and 27th) . FRIENDS have decided not to have their annual
December sale, but have a sale in January,
d. Director's Report
Library Director, Jenny Morrison, updated the board on staff changes:
• Lauren Vaudo-Cynova was promoted from Library Assistant I to Circulation Supervisor replacing
Wendy Orona who moved out of area.
• Sheila Mulholland was promoted from Library Aide to Library Assistant I replacing Lauren Vaudo-
Cynova.
• Cynthia Hartman, an AARP volunteer from Cocoa Beach, was hired as Library Aide replacing
Maggie Brown who transferred to Central,
• Tina Chalfant, a CCPL volunteer, was hired as Library Aide replacing Sheila Molholland.
The City purchased a computer table for patron laptops,
The library will begin replacing the upholstered chairs in the public PC area with non -upholstered chairs,
Jenny has been working on finishing up the budget and there is nothing final yet. Jenny called Alvin Hall,
Library Administration Financial Manager, he has nothing to release yet. When budget becomes available
Jenny will email to everyone.
Jenny also announced that Dee Livingstone's last day before retirement is today (May 8, 2014). Jenny
said they had a lot of really good candidates to fill Dee's position. However, the search has been
narrowed down to two candidates. She and Ray Dickinson will meet to make the final decision.
Jenny spoke about the statistics being down which probably has to do with the fact the library is not
getting multiply copies of best sellers like they use to from the central fund, She said they have been told
that it will start up again soon and we will start to see the multi -volumes again,

2. Old Business
The plaque for Dr. Grady was discussed. Gustavo Vergara said the differences in the program are
whether you want to plant a tree or do a plaque,
Chairperson Brown said for a tree the cost is $500 and the cost of the plague is $300. She asked if the
board wanted wait until the new city hall is built before a decision is made on what action to take.

Al Moe spoke on his attendance at the County Board meeting:.
4. Announcements
Chairperson Brown announced the next Cape Canaveral Library Board meeting will take place on
Thursday, July 10, 2014 and the next Brevard County Library Board meeting will take place on
Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Central Public Library in Cocoa, FL.
5. Adjournment
Chairperson Brown asked for a motion to adjourn the board meeting. Jean Deck made the motion and it
was seconded by Joanna Atwood. The meeting was adjourned at 3:05 pm.
