HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1992-06RESOLUTION 92 -6 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL REQUESTING FINALIZATION OF A SITE FOR THE VETERANS' ADMINISTRATION HOSPITAL FACILITY; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Veterans of Central Florida need and deserve a Veterans Administration Hospital Facility promised to be constructed in Central Florida; and WHEREAS, a decision on the location of the proposed hospital has been delayed on five (5) separate occasions by the Department of Veterans'-Affairs; and WHEREAS, the repeated delays can no longer be tolerated by the Veterans of Central Florida, who are forced to endure extensive trips to Tampa, Miami or Gainesville to receive treatment; and WHEREAS, the decision on the location of the hospital should be made immediately based upon the merit of the respective sites; and WHEREAS, the site offered in Brevard County, particularly because of the facilities sharing agreement offered by Patrick Air Force Base, appears to merit selection over the competing sites; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Brevard County,. Florida,'as follows: 1. That'the City of Cape Canaveral strongly urges President George Bush and VA Secretary Edward Derwinski to immediately and without further delay finalize the site selection for the planned Central Florida Veterans' Administration Hospital. 2. That the City of Cape Canaveral recommends the Brevard County site be selected, as it offers both a convenient location for Veterans through Central Florida and the sharing of facilities with Patrick Air Force Base.
