HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1992-09 FailedRESOLUTION NO. 92 -09 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA, REQUESTING THE TRUSTEES OF THE INTERNAL IMPROVEMENT FUND, STATE OF FLORIDA, TO CONVEY CERTAIN PROPERTIES TO THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE WHEREAS, The City of Cape Canaveral, is cognizant of the need to make every effort to preserve and /or restore further degradation of our water bodies; and WHEREAS, the State of Florida, Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund, have control of approximately thirty -nine acres of wetlands within the Cape Canaveral City limits; and WHEREAS, these wetlands were once mangrove swamp and /or Spartina flats; and WHEREAS, The St. Johns River Water Management District has a vested interest in the restoration and management of the Indian River Lagoon System through their Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) program; and WHEREAS, The City of Cape Canaveral recognizes the importance of maintaining our wetlands to enhance the ecosystem of the Banana River and provide resting and breeding habitat for species for food; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Brevard County, Florida as follows: SECTION 1. The City of Cape Canaveral requests the Trustees of the Internal Improvement Fund, State of Florida, to convey that part of unsurveyed land lying west of the north 626.20 feet of Government Lot 2, in Section 15, Township 24 South, Range 37 East, Brevard County, Florida. SECTION 2. The City of Cape Canaveral intends to preserve this area as wetlands to protect the natural environment and provide educational and experimental research for the enhancement of the Banana River. RESOLUTION NO. 92 -09 PAGE 1 OF 2 PAGES SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
