A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAPE
CANAVERAL REQUESTING ADDITIONAL
FUNDING FOR EDUCATION; PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral considers the education of
youth as one of its highest priorities of the citizens 'of the
community; and
WHEREAS, the City and its residents have set the highest
standards of community support for the schools and students within
the boundaries within the City of Cape Canaveral and are providing
both voluntary and obligatory financial contributions to the school'.
system; and
WHEREAS, the Brevard County School,Board and the City of Cape
Canaveral have' enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship .
characterized by innovative and extensive cooperative arrangements
for sharing physical resources and promoting interaction of
personnel; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral taxpayers pay to the
school district far more in revenue than is 'returned to City
residents in educational services; and
WHEREAS, due to .budget shortfall, the Brevard County School
Board has threatened to close Cocoa Beach High School, which
children of the residents of the City of Cape Canaveral attend; and
WHEREAS, the net cost savings likely to be realized will be
minimal, if any, and the damage to the students_ and to Cape
Canaveral and Cocoa Beach communities affected would be devastated
and the inequity to the taxpaying public sector involved would, be
an unconscionable insult.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT 'RESOLVED, that the City of Cape
Canaveral, by and through its City Council, hereby requests:
SECTION 1. That the Brevard County School Board cease any
attempts to close any schools within the environs of the City of
Cape Canaveral or the City of Cocoa Beach.
SECTION 2. That the Brevard County School Board, join with
the Cities of Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral, and requesting of
Resolution 91 -48'

their legislative delegation make this request known for further
educational funds for the schools of the City of Cape Canaveral and
City of Cocoa Beach to their representatives in both the House of
Representatives and State Senate in Tallahassee.
SECTION 3. The City of Cape Canaveral is hereby requesting
that, if necessary, the Brevard County legislative delegation join
with it in requesting a -special session in the House of.
Representatives and Senate to take whatever steps 'necessary to
provide additional funds for education for Brevard County, more
specifically in the cities of Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach.
SECTION 4. That this resolution shall take effect
immediately upon its adoption.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral,
Florida, this 15th day of October , :1991.
