HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 03/26/2013CULTURE AND LEISURE SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD DRAFT MMIINUTES 3-23-13 CAPE CANAVERAL LIBRARY MEETING ROOM 201 POLK AVENUE TUESDAY, MARCH 26, 2013 5:30PM No audio recording dueto PC failure MEMBERS PRESENT: Gene Petre, John Dattilo, Doug Raymond, Marlene Woodside, Barry Schoenholtz, Maureen Michel MEMBERS ABSENT:. Stephanie Robinson OTHERS PRESENT: Gustavo Vergara, Leisure Services Director Fran Norman, Board Secretary CALL TO ORDER: Mr. Petre called the meeting to order at 5:30. APPROVAL: Mr. Raymond made the motion to approve the minutes from the January 22, 2013 meeting. Ms. Woodside seconded, the motion passed unanimously. STAFF REPORTS: Mr. Vergara reviewed the financial reports and budget including Friday Fest and Reindeer Run, discussion ensued. NEW BUSINESS: Mr. Vergara announced that while the "Movie in the Park" at Manatee Sanctuary Park is a beautiful setting, it is not well attended. His suggestion was to move the venue to Canaveral City Park. Mr. Petre agreed that the Park is walkable and more accessible to more residents and should result in a better turn out. Mr. Vergara also announced that instead of sending event flyers home with the students at our local schools, we are currently sending home the Department's Recreator which has all upcoming events, classes, activities and programs, OLD BUSINESS: Ms. Michel indicated that she was not aware of our events and would like to get information on them as they come up, Mr, Vergara responded that the Board will get the Recreator via email every month. Ms. Woodside presented the Board with a presentation for the Board to consider a study program to include workshops, with members of the Board, citizens and interested people to create a Cape Canaveral Center for the Arts. Mr. Schoenholtz suggested that a multi purpose center could be used for this. Mr. Petre thanked Ms. Woodside for the information she provided and recommended that it be brought back at the next meeting to give the Board some time to study it and put together thoughts and ideas. He also asked the Director to look into moving the playground equipment from Banana River Park to Manatee Sanctuary Park. ADJOURNMENT: With no further business to conduct Mr. Raymond moved to adjourn the meeting, Mr. Dattilo seconded. Mr. Petre adjourned the meeting at 6:45pm. Next meeting is scheduled for May 28, 2013.
