A RESOLUTION REQUESTING APPROPRIATIONS
AND FOR CANAVERAL SUPPORT CONSTRUCTION
HARBOR SAND TRANSFER FACILITY
AND RELATED SOUTH JETTY EXTENSION; PRO-
VIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, when the Corps of Engineers

WHEREAS , the State of Florida Department of Natural
Resources , Division of Beaches and Shores , has recognized the
problem that inlets cause in disrupting the natural littoral
drift and causing beach erosion south of the inlets , and has
encouraged the use of sand transfer facilities as a vital and
essential corrective measure. This project is the Department of
Natural Resource' s Number One priority for the State of Florida.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Cape Canaveral, Brevard County, Florida as follows:
SECTION 1 . That our Congressional Delegation , namely the
Hon. Bill Nelson, The Hon. Lawton Chiles and The Hon. Bob Graham,
pursue with vigor the obtaining of Federal Appropriations to
I/ construct the aforementioned Canaveral Sand Bypass Facility.
SECTION 2 . That the Secretary of the Army and the Congress
of the United States fulfill the obligation they made in 1962 by
authorizing this vital project with follow on action in funding
this project.
SECTION 3 . This Resolution shall take effect immediately
upon its adoption.
ADOPTED BY the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral,
Florida, this 6th day of October , 1987.
