HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1986-55MICROFILMED AUG 87 RESOLUTION NO. 86 -55 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND THE CITY CLERK TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH BREVARD COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO CONDUCT THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral's General Election will be held on November 4, 1986; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, as follows: SECTION 1. The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute an agreement with the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners to assist with the Municipal election to be held on November 4, 1986. A copy of said agreement is attached hereto and made a part hereof by reference. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. FLORIDA, hereinafter referred to as "County ". W I T N E b S E. T. H t WHEREAS, the City has adopted asingle permanent registra- tion system with the County for the registration of electors of the Cityt and - WHEREAS, the City desires the County to conduct the General Municipal 'Election(S) of the City to be held on November 1, 1986 for the purpose ,of,_ electing two Council Members and possible referendumquestions NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the premises and cove- nants herein contained,'the County and the City agree as'fallowsi 1. The County agrees to do thefollowinga a. Furnish and place at the polling places sufficient voting equipment. b. Provide City Clerk with a list of registered voters qualified to vote in the City Election. c. Appoint and pay clerks and inspectors at each polling place to conduct the election. d. Coordinate printing of ballots, a. Furnish and place at the polling places the registra- tion records for each precinct,, f. Provide for absentee voting in accordance with the provisions of the general Laws of the State of Florida. g, Handle tabulation and counting of all absentee ballots. 2. The City agrees to do the following: a. Furnish the County by the close of business day of Sept. 16, 1986 (last Hate of qualification) a certified copy under seal of the City Clerk of the proposed ballot showing the exact names of all qualified candidates for the election for each office, as they will appear on the ballot, Also, the exact wording of questions or issues to be placed on the ballot. b. Cause the sample ballot to be advertised in the newspaper as required by law. c. Pay all,costs'of, printing and advertising, of the official ballots, sample ballots and other ,printed forma required by law.' _ d. Cooperate in coordinating and printing the ballot and approving the form of the ballot. e. Do whatever elzz is agreed herein. •3. The County shall Count the votes and submit to the Supervisor of Election's, the Certificate of Results of Election certifying in duplicate the votes cast for each candidate. The Supervisor of Elections shall deliver two copies of the Certi- ficate of Results to the'City Clerk,who will transmit one copy to the Mayor. The Mayor and City Clerk 'shall transmit the returns to the City ,Council ;at a special meeting for the canvassing of the election, which shall be held at 9:30 P.M., November 6, 1986 at Cape Canaveral City Hall , on the second day following the election. After the absentee ballots have been counted by the Countyt . a list shall be made of those voted for with the number of votes for each, and certify in duplicate as to the .correctness of the absentee vote count. The Supervisor shall deliver two copies of the absentee vote count to the 'City Clerk who will transmit one copy to the Mayor. The City Clerk shall then transmit the re- turns to the City Council. " MICROFILMED AUG 87 After receiving all returns, the City Council shall approve the election results as submitted by the County and said returns shall be by the City Council declared as the result of the elec- tion. The City shall then submit one copy of its Certification of Election to the County. THE PARTIES HERETO, by their respective and proper officials, execute this Agreement on the date aforesaid.
