HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1984-29�IICRQFIL}ED 4 -15 -85 RESOLUTION NO. 84 -29 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND THE CITY CLERK TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH BREVARD COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO CONDUCT THE MUNICIPAL ELECTION FOR THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral's General Election will be held on November 6, 1984; and WHEREAS, Brevard County will be conducting their election on the same date; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, as follows: SECTION 1. The Mayor and the City Clerk are hereby authorized to execute an agreement with the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners to conduct the Municipal election to be held on November 6, 1984. A copy of said agreement is attached hereto and made a part hereof by reference. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. Mf THEREFORE, in consideration of the premises and covenants herein contained, the County and the City agree as follows: 1. The County agrees to do the following: a. Furnish and place at the polling places sufficient voting equipment. b. Provide City Clerk with a list of registered voters qualified to vote in their City election., c. Appoint and pay clerks and inspectors at cacti polling place to conduct the election. d. Coordinate printing of ballots. e. Furnish and place at the polling places the registration records for each precinct. f. Provide for absentee voting in accordance with the provisions of the General Laws of the State of Florida. g. Handle tabulation and counting of all absentee ballots. 2. The City agrees to do the following: a. Furnish the County by the close of business day of September 1 R . 1924 (last date of qualification) a certified copy under seal of the City Clore; of the proposed ballot showing the exact names of all 6a qualified candidates for the election for each office, as they will appear on the ballot. Also the exact wording of questions or issues to be placed on the ballot. b. Cause the sample ballot to be advertised in the newspaper as required by law. e. Pay all costs of printing and advertising of the official ballots, sample ballots and other printed forms required by law. d. Cooperate in coordinating and printing the ballot and approving the form of the ballot. c. Do whatever else is agreed herein. 3. The County shall count the votes and submit to the Supervisor of Elections the Certificate of Results of Election certifying in duplicate the votes cast for each candidate. The Supervisor shall deliver two copies of the Certificate of Results to the City Clerk who will transmit one copy to the Mayor. The I•layor and City Clerk shall transmit the returns to the City Council at a special meeting for the canvassing of the election, which shall be held at Cane Canave ra l.__r;a •� r. -,1_ 105 Polk Ave:. Caoe Canaveral on'the -second day following the election. (November 8, 1984). After the absentee ballots have been counted by the County, a list shall be made of those voted for with the number of votes for each, and certify in duplicate as to the correctness of the ,absentee vote count. The Supervisor shall deliver two copies of the absentee vote count to the City Clerk who will transmit one copy to the kl yor. The City Clerk shall then transmit the returns to the City Council. After receiving all returns, the City Council shall approve the election results as submitted by the County and said returns shall be by the City Council declared as the result of the election. 77te City shall then submit one copy of their Certification of Election to the County. -2- r v + it W 4 THE PARTIES hereto, by their respective proper officials, execute this Agreement on the date aforesaid.
