Meeting Minutes November 14,2013
1. Call to Order
The regular meeting of the Cape Canaveral Library Board was held on Thursday, November 14, 2013 and was called to
order at 2:06 pm by Linda Brown.
The following members were present:
Linda Brown, Chairperson
Jean Deck, Secretary
Evelin Reid, Library Board Member
Mary Ernst, Library Board Member
Marilyn Nicholas, Library Board Member
Also present:

Jenny Morrison, Library Director
Marcy Shaw, Recording Secretary
Gustavo Vergara, Cape Canaveral Parks & Recreation
Before the reading of the minutes, Chairperson Linda Brown brought up the question of whether or not the minutes could
be sent out via US Mail a couple of days prior to board meeting. It was decided not to pursue this avenue.
a. Approval of Minutes
Jean Deck made a motion to approve the July 11, 2013 minutes with the following corrections to the shelf sales.
Evelin Reid seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously as approved and accepted.
b. Correspondence
There was no correspondence
c. Chairperson's Report
Ms. Kessler and Ms. Hannam have withdrawn their names.
Discussion on expiration of board member terms—Linda Brown's and Evelin Reid's terms expired on October 1, 2013.
Chairperson said renewals of terms should take place prior to the actual term date end to prevent a lapse in time. The
limit is 3 terms each member. Three board members, Joanna Atwood, Jean Deck, and Mary Ernst are up for renewal in
October 2014. Marilyn Nicholas' renewal date is October 2015
Jean Deck brought up the question of whether a board member must be a Cape Canaveral resident. Gustavo Vergara
will check city by-laws to see if residency is a requirement.
Chairperson Brown said there was an incident last month where members were trying to reach other members so a
request was made by the chairperson for everyone to list their cell numbers on the contact sheet.
The board needs one board member. An announcement will be sent to FL TODAY by Evelin Reid asking for people who
have an interest in serving on the CCPL Library Board.
d. Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public Library Report
Jean Deck reported that the Friends last lobby sale netted $817 and that made 2013 their best year so far.
Online sales are a bit down this year, but still doing well despite the normal slower summer run.
Checking account balance: $11,234, that includes$750 which is earmarked for other projects. This also includes$440
left in the classic fund which brings the total down to approximately$10,000.
e. Director's Report
Jenny Morrison passed out copies of the county funding for the library for 2014.
Endowment fund received $635 in name of Tim Grady; Jenny would like to purchase chair with in name of Dr. Grady.
Circulation still down, but library well used; 37% books; 64% audio
Jenny would like to have re-carpeting included in next year's budget for library.

Cara has added another day (Thursdays)for story time until end of the year; will continue if it is well received. Cara also
has started a teen activity committee for teens to discuss ideas also teens participate in "patting" book shelves and do arts
and crafts.
Wendy Orona is leaving at end of December due to spouse's transfer and in June, Dee Livingstone entered the DROP
(Deferred Retirement Option Program) program.
Jenny to discontinue film days at end of the year to allow Dee to take Thursdays off as part of her"must use" leave time
prior to retirement.
Jenny would like to start a film series and have a Social Studies teacher come in to show a film and also open up an
intellectual discussion on film.

Cape Canaveral City will have tree lighting on December 7th.
4. Announcements
The next Cape Canaveral Public Library Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at the Cape Canaveral
Public Library meeting room.
5.Adjournment
With no further business to discuss, a motion was made by Mary Ernst to adjourn the meeting seconded by Jean Deck.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:06 pm
