WHEREAS, James L. Blizzard was born September 9, 1934 in New London,

Connecticut; he moved to Key West in 1940 and to Fort Lauderdale in 1941; and came to know
4 the Lord on October 8, 1951; and
WHEREAS, he married Gerda Erna Rentschler in September 1956; together they had
five children: James, Linda, Daniel, John and Susan; he has 23 grandchildren and 15 great-
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, he received his Bachelors of Biblical Education from Columbia Bible
College in 1956; Masters of Divinity in 1959 and Masters of Sacred Theology in 1960 from
Faith Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Blizzard was the Founding Pastor of the Calvary Bible Presbyterian
Church in Stanton, Delaware in 1957 until 1962; and was the Founding Pastor of the Knoxville
Bible Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tennessee in 1962 until 1977; and
WHEREAS, in 1977, he moved to Cape Canaveral, Florida to be Director of Gateway to
the Stars Bible Conference and held the position until 1984; in 1978-79 he taught several classes
at Shelton College and served as Dean of Men and of Student Affairs; he was granted an
Honorary Doctorate; and
WHEREAS, in 1984, Dr. James L. Blizzard was the Founding Pastor of Grace Bible
Presbyterian Church, #1 Church Lane, Cape Canaveral, Florida; in 1985 the Church started
ministering at Huntington Nursing Home and began a summer camp program; and
WHEREAS, Dr. James L. Blizzard will retire after 55 years of ministry on January 31,
2014; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Rocky Randels, Mayor of the City of Cape Canaveral, do
hereby Proclaim, Friday, January 31, 2014 as
DR. JAMES L. BLIZZARD DAY
and urge all members of the Grace Bible Presbyterian Church congregation and citizens to
express gratitude to this outstanding individual for the spiritual stewardship he has so faithfully
provided, and to wish that his retirement be a time of blessing and fulfillment for him and his
family.
