HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrdinance No. 02-1979MICROFILMED 3.14 -8O • ORDINANCE NO. 2 -79 / AN ORDINANCE REPEALING CHAPTER 545 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA, WHICH CHAPTER IMPOSED AN EXCISE TAX ON CASUALTY INSURORS DOING BUSINESS WITHIN THE CITY, WHICH TAX FUNDED THE MUNICIPAL POLICE OFFICERS' RETIREMENT TRUST FUND; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida has contracted with the Sheriff of Brevard County, Florida for its municipal police services, and no longer has a municipal police department; and WHEREAS, Chapter 545 of the Code of the City was adopted to fund the Municipal Police Officers' Retirement Trust Fund pursuant to Chapter 185, Florida Statutes and said Fund only applies to "police officers receiving compensation from a municipality for services rendered" of a regularly organized municipal police department, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, as follows: SECTION 1. Chapter 545 of the Code of the City of Cape Canaveral Florida, entitled "EXCISE TAX ON INSURANCE" is hereby repealed in its entirety. SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. ADOPTPT) by the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, this 16 day of January, 1979.
