RESOLUTION NO. 96-13
A RESOLUTION OF '1'11E CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, BREVARD
COUNTY, FLORIDA REQUESTING THE BREVARD COUNTY BOARD
OF COUNTY COMNIISSIONERS APPLY FOR PRESERVATION 2000
GRANT FUNDS OR A SIMILAR GRANT TO EXPAND CHERIE DOWN
PARK.
WHEREAS, the preservation of beach front property provides aesthetic, environmental
and recreational benefits for our residents and tourists; and
WHEREAS, the Preservation 2000 Act, and Chapter 380, Part III, of the Florida
Communities Trust Act, Florida Statutes, provides assistance to implement the conservation,
recreation and open space, and coastal elements of comprehensive plans through a program of
land acquisition awards for the purposes of natural resource conservation and outdoor recreation;
and
WHEREAS, local residents have petitioned the Brevard County Board of Commissioners
to acquire a 3.5 acre parcel adjacent to Cherie Down Park; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral City County supports the efforts of the
petitioners to secure additional park land utilizing grant funds;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City of Cape Canaveral, as follows:
Section 1: The City of Cape Canaveral requests that the Brevard County Board of
County Commissioners apply for Preservation 2000 grant funds to secure an additional 3.5 acre
parcel adjacent to Cherie Down Park, as requested by said petitioners.
Section 2: This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
ADOPTED by the Cape Canaveral City Council this 5th day of March 1996.
