RESOLUTION NO. 95 -14
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, BREVARD
COUNTY, FLORIDA; SUPPORTING THE BREVARD COUNTY LIBRARY
SYSTEM EXPANSION PROJECTS IN BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, Brevard County as the Space Exploration Center of the world is home to
citizens of extraordinary scientific, cultural and intellectual capacities; and
WHEREAS, a comprehensive Library System is of inestimable value and assistance to
all of the citizens of Brevard County; and
WHEREAS, usage of Library facilities by patrons had increased significantly each and
every year; and
WHEREAS, each Library is hard - pressed to meet the demands of the users for services,
books, videos, and reference materials; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral constructed and furnished the original Cape
Canaveral Library at a cost of $500,000 and has set aside City owned land in support of the
Brevard County Library Expansion Project within our community; and
WHEREAS, several communities, including Titusville, Merritt Island, Cape Canaveral,
Cocoa, Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Eau Gallie, Melbourne, West Melbourne, and Palm Bay
have provided facilities which were incorporated into the Brevard County Library System
thereby contributing to the formation and success of the System; and
WHEREAS, the Brevard County Library System has further contributed to the success
of the system by providing additional facilities in Port St. John, Cocoa, Satellite Beach, Eau
Gallie Melbourne, Palm Bay, and Micco; and
WHEREAS, the Brevard County Library System has concluded that demands on the
system require expansion of the system by providing additional facilities in North Brevard,

•
Merritt Island, Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach, Melbourne, West Melbourne, and Barefoot Bay;
and
WHEREAS, the communities of Cape Canaveral, Merritt Island and Cocoa Beach are
providing additional land for the expansion of libraries in those communities; and
WHEREAS, the Brevard County Library System has expended considerable funds in
these communities for design, development and engineering of these proposed library
expansions; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cape Canaveral has provided further support for expansion of
its library by waiving $4,306.38 of impact fees; and
WHEREAS, the proposed plans for the expansion of the Brevard County Library
System are reasonable and correct in that these facilities would be provided at the user level so
that the very young, very aged, and handicapped citizens of Brevard County will be able to avail
themselves of the benefits provided by libraries.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Cape
Canaveral, Brevard County, Florida, as follows:
SECTION 1. The City of Cape Canvaeral does hereby support the efforts of the
Brevard County Library System to expand and enhance the library services county wide as
originally planned and funded by the Brevard County Board of Commissioners.
SECTION 2. The City of Cape Canaveral urges the Brevard County Board of
Commissioners to ensure that funds already expended and /or committed for Library System
expansion be not wasted by not continuing through with the Library expansion program, already
approved by the Brevard County Board of Commissioners
