HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1995-12• RESOLUTION NO. 95 -12 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA; ENDORSING THE LOCATION OF A VETERANS ADMINISTRATION HOSPITAL IN BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA. WHEREAS, studies conducted in the early 1980's and validated in 1992 showed that approximately 1,000 additional hospital beds will be needed in the State of Florida by 2005 to meet the veteran demand; and WHEREAS, the Central Florida area, including Brevard County, has been identified for more than ten years as a critically underserved area with a rapidly growing population of veterans; and WHEREAS, the studies also showed that a new medical center in Brevard County would serve a significant number of Central Florida veterans who currently have no reasonable access to veterans' health services; and WHEREAS, the VA medical center in Brevard County will be the newest and one of the largest VA hospitals in the state of Florida that will offer state -of -the -art medical care to the veterans of Fast Central Florida; and WHEREAS, a Department of Defense study of military retirees receiving retired pay found the Eleventh District of Florida ranks fourth among all 435 congressional districts in the number of such retirees; and WHEREAS, a 77 -acre parcel has been deeded to the VA and the project is moving rapidly through the design process; and WHEREAS, the Veterans Administration estimates the facility will create 1,329 new jobs with a total impact of $262 million per year. • • • NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Brevard County, Florida, as follows: ,SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral does hereby acknowledge the crucial need for the passage of the VA Hospital funding within the 1995 congressional budget to assure development of the regional hospital in Brevard County, Florida.
