HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1994-15r • • RESOLUTION NO. 94 -15 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA; OPPOSING REDUCTION IN THE LEVEL OF FEDERAL FUNDING FOR NASA IN THE FISCAL YEAR 1995 BUDGET; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the proposed federal budget for the coming year reflects a $250 million reduced level of funding for NASA; and WHEREAS, the twelve NASA centers nationwide are important economic generators for our community, Brevard County, and the nation as a whole; and WHEREAS, the twelve NASA centers vary in focus, from Space Station and aerospace industries, to life sciences research programs and bio -tech companies, it is in our collective best interest to work for the overall health of NASA; and WHEREAS, the Space Station represents the largest single international venture ever, drawing partners from Europe and Japan; these countries have invested some $8 billion in the Space Station because they believe in America's expertise and commitment; and WHEREAS, NASA and the Space Station program will help our country pay for its other vital needs while at the same time increasing our understanding of the universe. WHEREAS, a reduction in Federal funding will have a negative impact on NASA, the Space Station, and our local communities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, as follows: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral strongly supports NASA and the Space Station program and requests the Congressional opponents to review in depth the facts, figures, • • • City of Cape Canaveral, Florida Resolution No. 94 -15 Page 2 and consequences pertaining to same and to reconsider their positions. SECTION 2. The citizens of Cape Canaveral are asked to write or contact members of Congress, President Bill Clinton, or Vice President Al Gore to express their support of this vital program. SECTION 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. ADOPTED BY the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, this 5th day of April , 1994. ATTEST: Faith G.
