HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution 1994-12r • ** RESOLUTION FAILED BY A 4 TO 1 VOTE AT THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING HELD ON MARCH 15, 1994. RESOLUTION NO. 94 -12 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA; OPPOSING REDUCTION IN THE FEDERAL OPERATING ASSISTANCE FOR TRANSIT PROGRAMS IN THE FISCAL YEAR 1995 BUDGET; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners is responsible for providing safe, reliable, accessible and efficient transportation for the citizens of Brevard County; and WHEREAS, the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners is the designated recipient for Federal Transit Administration Section 3, 9, 16 and 18 funds for public transportation; and WHEREAS, the Local Coordinating Board for the Transportation Disadvantaged Commission voted on January 31, 1994, to notify appropriate U.S. Senators and Congressional Representatives of their opposition and asked that the Board of County Commissioners also transmit opposition to this funding reduction; and WHEREAS, the Director of the Brevard County Transit Services Division has also asked local municipalities within Brevard County to voice their opposition to the proposed reduction in Federal funding which would have a direct impact on the citizens of Brevard County; and WHEREAS, Federal public transportation operation funds are a vital and necessary portion of public transportation funding in Brevard; and WHEREAS, a reduction in Federal funding will have a negative • • • City of Cape Canaveral, Florida Resolution No. 94 -12 Page 2 impact on Brevard County's Fixed Routes, Demand Response and Computer Assistance programs by reducing miles and hours of service. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, as follows: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral opposes any reduction in federal operating assistance for transit programs. SECTION 2. That the City Clerk is instructed to send copies of this resolution to House and Senate Budget Appropriation Committee Members, Florida U.S. Senators and Representatives, and the President.
