HomeMy WebLinkAbout12-04-2006 Regular MeetingRECREATION ADVISORY BOARD CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA December 4, 2006 Members Present: John Dattilo, Harvey Renshaw, Connie Trautman, Gene Petre Members Absent: Bob Gorham, Marianne Kulac-Taiani, Regina Mead Others Present: Nancy Hanson, Director of Parks and Recreation 1. Chairman Harvey Renshaw called the meeting to order at 5:05 PM at the City Hall Annex. II. Gene Petre moved and John Dattilo seconded the motion to accept the minutes of the July 24, 2006 meeting as written. Motion was unanimously approved by all members present. III. Nancy Hanson, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida reviewed the Recreation Department Budget with all members present. W. The Director of Parks & Recreation, Nancy Hanson presented her report which included programs recently completed, as well as, those planned through the end of 2006. Board Members took special note for the following: a) Banana River Park project is almost completed with a possible spring dedication. b) Park reservation permit at Manatee Park has been increased from $50 to $75. c) Co-ed softball season ( September to mid December ) are now engaged in playoffs. d) Robert Lefever has now become a full time employee in the recreation Department effective October 1, 2006. e) Cape Canaveral City Park grant (FRDAP) has been submitted to DEP Department of Environmental Protection) and includes a possible complete make -over of the City Park with improvements. This project may begin in January or February of 2007. f) Cape View Park is not available to the general public during the time that children are in session. g) Holiday Tree Lighting Program is scheduled for December 17th. V Under Unfinished Business included review and discussion of the drainage problems at Manatee Park which are not yet resolved. Discussions with the City Manager by our Parks and Recreation Director, Nancy Hanson hopefully will generate a solution to this on going problem. VI Under New Business — Nancy Hanson, Parks & Recreation Director reported the Raindeer Run will now be managed and operated by the Parks and Recreation Department begining in 2007. All expenses will be deducted • • Page 2 from the event's income and profits will be made to United Way. This event will have assistance in the event operations from United Way, Space Coast Runners Club and various department's within the City of Cape Canaveral. Cherie Down Park — discussion took place regarding the possible transfer of Ownership by the County of Brevard to the City Of Cape Canaveral. Discussion included the positive and negative aspects. The memo of May 23, 2006 from Director Hanson to the Mayor, Council Members and City Manager was presented and discussed in detail. It was felt by some members present, that this undertaking requires further investigation. A motion made by Gene Petre and seconded by Connie Trautman — The City of Cape Canaveral Recreation Advisory Board recommends that this Board have the opportunity to review any County of Brevard proposal and/or agreement for the City of Cape Canaveral to acquire, operate and maintenance of Cherie Down Park. All members present voted : Yea 3 ( Harvey Renshaw, Connie Trautman and Gene Petre ) Nay 1 ( John Dattilo ) — Motion carried. VII No further discussion requests were made by any Board Member. VIII, Gene Petre moved and seconded by John Dattilo that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was passed unanimously among Members present. Chairman Harvey Renshaw announced the next Recreation Advisory Board meeting is sc ed for January 22, 2007, and adjourned the meeting at PM. Acting ecretar3\ E kV LAC._
