RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
City of Cape Canaveral, Florida
Monday — May 23, 2005
Members Present: John Dattilo, Comue Trautman, Harvey Renshaw and Gene Petre (Alternate) and Bob
Gorham, participated in portion of this meeting due to prior commitment.
Members Absent: Regina Mead, Billy Specht, Marianne Kulac-Taiani.
Others Present: Nancy Hanson, Director of Parks and Recreation
I. Chairman H. Renshaw called the meeting to order at 5:10 PM at Manatee Sanctuary Park. He
announced that G. Petre would be a voting member and Acting Secretary for this meeting.
R. J.Dattfio moved and C. Trautman seconded the minutes of the January 24, 2005 meeting be accepted
after spelling corm:dons (Petre) and B. Gorham as Secretary.
III. The Parks & Recreation budget to date report (58% of the year) was reviewed with N. Hanson.
IV. The Director of Recreation, N. Hanson presented the Parks & Recreation Department report. Board
member took special note of the following:
1. Stottler Stagg & Associates (SSA) has been contracted to do the design work for the Banana River
Park. This includes soccer fields, parking lot, fishing platform and core drilling.
2. Special thank you to N. Hanson for .,k...:•.:.rg and directing the Manatee Park Dedication.
3. Review of letter from developer Bill Young in which he donated two (2) trash tecvpticals for Manatee
Park.
V. Unfinished Business:
1. Softball field use — Director Hanson reported on previous softball programs and need to have staffing
to run a softball program, as well as, other programs.
2. City Park Playground project was reviewed by Director Hanson and FRDAP Grant submission. A
motion was made by J. Dattilo and seconded by C. Tautman to re -apply for a FRDAP grant for this
facility which would include handicap accessibility.
VI. New Business:
1. 2005-2006 budget review which will require a storm run off plan due to poor drainage at Manatee
Park during rain storms. The park will have need for covered picnic tables (3) and possible horse pits.
There beindiscussion, Chairman H. Renshaw advised the next RAB metting will be
scheduled "j , 2005. J. Dattilo moved to adjourn the meeting and C. Trautman seconded.
