RESOLUTION 70-36 4-10-80
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING A PROCLAMATION BY
THE GOVERNOR, STATE OF FLORIDA PROCLAIMING
NOVEMBER 9-15, 1970, PRISONERS OF WAR AND
MISSING IN ACTION WEEK; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, Governor Claude R. Kirk, Jr., has issued a
Proclamation proclaiming the period November 9 - 15, 1970, as
PRISONERS OF WAR AND MISSING IN ACTION WEEK, and

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral,
Florida wholeheartedly supports the American servicemen now
serving and those who have served their counif, and especially
those who are Prisoners of War and Missing in Action, and
WHEREAS, the City Council approves of and wishes to
support and adopt the Proclamation issued by the Governor of the
State of Florida, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a
part hereof;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of
the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, as follows:
SECTION 1. The Proclamation issued by the Governor of
the State of Florida on October 22, 1970, proclaiming the period
November 9 - 15, 1970, as PRISONERS OF WAR AND MISSING IN
ACTION WEEK, a copy of which is attached hereto and made a
part hereof, is hereby supported and adopted by the City of Cape
Canaveral, Florida.
SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective
immediately upon its adoption.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral,
Florida, on this 3rd day of November , 1970.

WHEREAS, approximately several million American service-
men have dedicated themselves to the highest honor and tradition of
the Armed Services and the Nation during the years of the Vietnam
War, and
WHEREAS, thousands of these men have heroically endured
the ordeal and agony of battle in a strange and distant land, and
WHEREAS the pain and suffering of the families of
the prisoners of war and the men m issing in action demonstrates
a courage and endurance unequalled in human experience, and
WHEREAS, the perfidious and infamous Hanoi government in
arrogant and ruthless violations of all the rules of war brutally
refuses any information or communication with American prisoners of
war they hold or any information on those missing in action, and
WEEREASI many American individuals and groups, and the
United States government are making persistent, vigorous and valiant
efforts to persuade Hanoi to cease this inhuman treatment,. and
WHEREAS, the National League of Families of American
Prisoners and Alissing in Action in Southeast Asia will encourage
all Americans to intensify their efforts in this tragic cause
during . the period, November 9 -15, 1970;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Claude R. Kirk, Jr., by virtue of the
authority vested in mews Governor of the State of Florida, do here-
by proclaim . the period, November 9 -15, 1970, as
PRISONERS OF WAR AND MISSING IN ACTION. WEEK
in Florida, and do urge all Floridians to write to Hanoi on behalf
of the 135 Florida families and all others with their loved ones
held captive or missing in Vietnam demanding information on commu-
nications with said prisoners and missing servicemen.
