A RESOLUTION SUPiOitTING A SYSTEM OF
BIKEWAYS THROUGHOUT BREVARD COUNTY,
FLORIDA FOR THE PURPOSE 01, ATTRACTING
AND ENCOURAGING SAPS BICYCLING;
PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral,
Florida recognizes that certain values can be attained from safe
bicycling, including cleaner air, physical exercise, better health,
pleasure and economy for people of all ages, and
WI IE'RE -AS, all of Brevard County, Florida needs bicycle
routes to move cyclists around the various communities to
recreational facilities, schools, churches, shopping areas,
historic sites and cultural centers; and routes to move cyclists
around the cities, and into rural areas, to the beaches, parks and
on planned trips, tours and outings, and
WHEREAS, the establishment of bicycle routes will
provide local and tourist cyclists with a safer means of riding
their bicycles to their chosen destinations, and
WIIIEREAS, educational programs on safe bicycling
should be supported through bicycle clubs, service clubs, safety
agencies and schools, and further, that the parks and recreational
agencies should have the responsibility for providing recreational
opportunities for cyclists as a part of their established
recreational programs, and
WHEREAS, a system known as "BIKEWAYS" advises the
use of existing secondary [roads and streets in the municipalities
and residential areas, connecting with certain low traffic roads,
thereby providing a link between the various communities for
bicyclists, and
WHEREAS, following the establishment of a "BIKEWAYS"

system, routes are to be mapped and made available to the
public through newspapers and other media,
NOW, '1'lllsR1iI ORl ?, BL IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL 01' THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, FIARIDA, AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. 'That the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida
supports the various municipalities and county safety agencies
In all experiment in marking certain existing secondary streets
and roads as "BIKEWAYS ", which should be marked at intervals
with large, easy to read signs, said signs to be uniform
throughout Rrevard County.
SECTION 2. That the City and /or County Commissioners
and the Department of Transportation should consider additional
RIKI3WAYS and bicycle paths when planning for new roads or when
making improvements to existing roads that will connect with it
BIKE.%VAN' or bicycle path.
SECTION 3. 'That when it new recreation center, park or
cultural center is built the City and /or County Commissioners and
Department of 'Transportation should consider designating a
BIKEWAY or constructing a bicycle path to the new site and linking
it to existing RIKEIVAl'S or bicycle paths.
SECTION d. That the County Commissioners, Rrevard
League of Cities, Recreation, Park and Safety Agencies be urged to
use existing funds to purchase signs and to immediately designate
and mark certain existing streets as RIKEIVAYS connecting them to
existing bicycle paths and to develop additional facilities as needs
and interest justify.
SECTION 5. This Resolution shall become effective

immediately upon its adoption and approval by the City Council
of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida.
