A RESOLLf1'ION RE'QUE'STING THAT THE RE7CENT DAMAGE:
TO TIIL" BEACHES IN Till: CiTY 017 CAPE CANAVERAL,
FLORIDA 13E DECLARED A NATURAL DISASTER AREA BY
THE GOVERNOR OF TILE STATE 017 FLORIDA, TO QUALIFY
FOIL FEDERAL FUNDS AND RESOURCES; A REQUEST FOR
ASSISTANCE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL
RESOURCE'S OF THE STATE OF FLORIDA; PROVIDING THAT
A COPY OF THIS RESOLLFFION BE FORWARDED TO TILE
CORPS OF ENGINEERS; PROVIDING AN HFFECriVU DATE.
WHEREAS, recent high waves and erratic and unpredictable
winds have resulted in dramatic and permanent damage to the public ocean
beaches in Cape Canaveral, Florida; and
WI IEREAS, such damage has threatened the safety of both
public and private property and the safety and wellbeing of citizens of Cape
Canaveral in the Immediate area; and
WHEREAS, members of the Cape Canaveral City Council
have personally inspected such damage and reviewed the status of both the
public and private property within such vicinity; and
WHEREAS, such damage constitutes, In the deliberate
judgment of the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, a
natural disaster with an Impact beyond the resources of Cape Canaveral,
Rrevard County and other local agencies;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED fly TIIU CITY COUNCiL
OF THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The damage to both public and private property caused by
recent natural events of high winds and wave action in Cape Canaveral Is
hereby found to be a natural disaster; and the Honorable Reubin O'D.
Askew, Governor of the State of Florida, is hereby requested to declare
such area an area of natural disaster of State and Federal concern.
SUCTION 2. The Honorable Reubin O'D. Askew is hereby rtquested to
forthwith forward a certified copy of this resolution to the appropriate
officials and agencies of the Federal Government with official request
that said area be declared a natural disaster and thereby qualify for the
receipt of all available federal funds and resources.

SECTION 3. The State of Florida is hereby requested to declare
said area a natural disaster and thereby qualify for the receipt of all
available federal funds and resources.
SECTION 4. That the Department of Natural Resources of the
State of Florida, is hereby requested to provide a staff engineer to aid
the citizens within said area in the development of necessary corrective
0 solutions to prevent further damage to the affected ocean beaches and
public and private property.
SECTION 5. A certified copy of thisresolution be forwarded to
the Corps of Engineers with the request that said agency make an immed-
iate evaluation of the existing damage to both public and private property.
SECTION 6. That this resolution shall become effective immed-
iately upon its adoption by the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral,
Florida, this 6TH day of November, 1973.
