A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION FOR
A ROLL -RACK OF MILLAGE AND ELIMINATING
I'HE SEVEN MILL I1ININIUM FOR SCIIOOL TAX-
ATiON; PROVIDING FOR DISTRiRUI'ION OF
RESOLUTION; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE,
WHEREAS, the Countv Assessors are required by State law to
assess all real mul Personal property at 1007, of value; and
WHEREAS. this value Is largely determined by actual recent sell-
ing prices of similar property, similarly situated; and
WIIEREAS. it has been estimated that this will Increase values to
full market value, or a minimum increase of 75% to more than I007t
and
WHEREAS. the former "Roll -flack law" which would have required
a corresponding roll -hack of millages was repealed, leaving the taxpay-
er no protection; and
WHEREAS. the State law riddrequires that School Districts levy a
minimum of 7 mills;
NOW THEREFORE, RE IT ItESOLVED BY TI IL' CITY COUNCIL OF TILE Cif`Y 01' CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA, AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. That a "Roll -flick law" similar to the one that was
repealed and has been pre -filed in the Senate by Senator Chester
Stolzenburg and in the Ilouse of Representatives by Representative
Arthur 11. Rnde be enacted and signed into law.
SE'C`TION 2. That the State law regarding school taxation be revis-
ed to eliminate the 7 mill mininunn.
SI:CI'ION 3, That copies of this Resolution be sent to all State
Senators. Representatives. the Governor and to the news media.
SECTION 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately
upon its adoption by the City Council of the City of Cnpc Ginaveral.
