RESOLUTION NO. 76 -26
A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE EFFOPT TO OBTAIN FEDERAL FUNDING
OF A DEMONSTRATION GRANT TO EVALUATE THE PARATRANSIT CONCEPT
IN CAPE CANAVERAL AND CENTRAL BREVARD; URGING BPEVARD TRANS -
POPTATION STUDY GROUP TO CONSIDEP CENTRAL BPEVARD CPMNUNiTY
PARATRANSIT SERVICE PROJECT PROPOSAL; URGING PREVARD COUNTY
COFTIISSIONERS TO INCORPORATE WITHIN TRANSPOPTATION SYSTFM
TAXI SERVICE, ETOSSUPPOPTIATTEMPTTTOP OBTAIN IFFOERALCFUNDINrR
FOR PILOT PARATRANSIT PROGRAM, TO GIVE SERIOUS C.nNSIDEPATION
TO PARATRANSIT CONCEPT IN UPDATING TRANSPORTATION DEVELOPMENT
PROGRAM; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida
recognizes the need for a dependable mass transportation system within
the City of Cape Canaveral and the Central Brevard area; and
WHEPEAS, the City Council is aware of the pending update of the
Transportation Development Program; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes the PARATRANSIT concept of mass
transportation merits serious consideration for evaluation in the Cape
Canaveral and Central Brevard areas; and
WHEREAS, the City Council believes that private enterprise should be
encouraged to participate to the greatest extent possible in any planned
transportation system;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by theCity Council of the City of
Cape Canaveral, Florida, as follows:
SFCTION 1. The City of Cape Canaveral . supports the effort to obtain
Federal funding of a demonstration grant for t:.'-• Purpose of evaluating
the PARATRANSIT concept in Cape Canaveral and the Central Prevard area.
SECTION 2. The City of Cape Canaveral urges the Brevard Area Trans-
portation Study Group to carefully consider the CENTRAL PPEVAPD
COMMUNITY PARATRANSIT SERVICE PROJECT PROPOSAL prepared by Pessrs. J. n.
Thompson and V. F. Huseonica.
SECTION 3. The City of Cape Canaveral urges the Commissioners of
Brevard County to make every effort to incorporate within the transporta-
tion system the most extensive use of private enterprise Possible,
including a dependable 24 hour taxi service; to support the attempt to
obtain Federal funding for the pilot PARATRANSIT program outlined in the
MICROFILMED 4-10-80
proposal ; to give serious consideration to the PARATRANSIT concept in
the course of updating the Transportation Development Program.
SECTION 4. THIS RESOLUTION shall become effective immediately
upon its adoption.
ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral , Florida,
