HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolution No. 1976-22RESOLUTION NO. 76 -22 A RESOLUTION URGING THE CANAVERAL PORT AUTHORITY TO ESTABLISH A PROCRAI" OF TAXING PETROLEUM SAMPLES FROM SHIPS USING THE PORT OF CANAVERAL, TO PREVENT CUPPING OF TAR AND PETROLEUP WASTE PRODUCTS INTO THE ATLANTIC OCEAN WHICH NAY WASH UP ON BFACHES WITHIN THE CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL AND PREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida recognizes that the Atlantic Ocean beaches within the City and throughout Brevard County are an important asset, both to tourists and residents; and WHEREAS, there has been a noticeable increase in the amount of tar or other petroleum waste products washing up on said beaches; and WHEREAS, said tar is a nuisance and causes great inconvenience to persons using the beaches, and causes an unknown economic loss because of damaged clothing, beach apparel, carpeting, etc.; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, as follows: SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida hereby urges the Canaveral Port Authority to establish a program of taking petroleum samples from those ships using the Port of Canaveral, in an effort to prevent ships from dumping tar and other petroleum waste products into the Atlantic Ocean, which may cause such waste products to wash up on the beaches of the City of Cape Canaveral and of Brevard County, Florida. SECTION 2. This resolution will become effective immediately upon its adoption. ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, this . _ day of April, 1976. The City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, hereby urges the Canaveral Port Authority to initiate whatever action is available to it to help curb those ships using the Port of Canaveral from dumping tar and other petroleum waste products on the beaches in the City of Cape Canaveral and throughout Brevard County, Florida. SECTION 2. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption. ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Cape Canaveral, Florida, this day of April, 1976.
