Call to Order The regular meeting of the Cape Canaveral Library Board was held Tuesday, May 8, 2012, and called to order at 2:02 pm by Linda Brown. The following Members were present: Linda Brown, Chairperson Joanna Atwood, Board Member Jean Deck, Secretary Evelin Reid, Library Board Member Mary Ernst, Library Board Member Marilyn Nicholas, 2' 'Alternate Jenny C Morrison, Library Director Marianne Ellis, Recording Secretary Also present: Leo Nicholas Robert Lefever—Cape Canaveral Recreation Center Cara Kincaid—Cape Canaveral Public Library Youth Services Librarian—Cara presented a schedule of events for this year's Summer Reading Program. The programs include face painting for the children, Starlab from the BCC Planetarium, Owliver the Owl visit from the Florida Wildlife Hospital and other activities throughout the Summer Reading Program. a.Approval of minutes Joanna Atwood made a motion to approve the January 10, 2012 minutes with correction to Item 5, paragraph 2. "Linda nominated Joanna Atwood for Chairmanship. Joanna declined " Jean Deck seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously as approved and accepted. b.Correspondence There was no correspondence. c.Chairperson's Report Linda Brown asked if the question can be brought up at the County Library Board Meeting if the book"50 Shades of Grey"can be re-shelved. She asked if the Library Board can express objection to the book being taken off the shelf Marilyn Nicholas made a motion to send a letter to the County Library Director asking to re-shelve the book. Mary Ernst seconded the motion. d. Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public Library Report Jean Deck reported: The December 11th book sale netted $3475.00. A VHS sale this year netted $285.00. The April Library sale netted $643.00 and our online sales from January to date are$1984.00. Shelf books to date $823.00. We now have $14,000 in our checking account, $24,000 in CD's. We have allotted so far this year$2400 for DVD's, Summer Program and shelving, of which there is still $1590. A lobby sale may be scheduled for August or September. e. Director's Report Jennifer Morrison, Cape Canaveral Library Director reported: Attendance has gone up in January 13%, in February 13%, in March 5% and 6% in April. Circulation has gone down 2-10%during the last few months. It did go up 4% in March and 2%in February. Circulation has gone up on large print books which we have been able to purchase with the help of the City of Cape Canaveral. Reference transactions continue to go up and PC Usage is good. Meeting room use is good also We have a new employee, Sheila Mulholland starting May 13th There was a tour of the library, lead by Jennifer Morrison. Items that were pointed out were Re-Cycle Bins brought over to us by the City of Cape Canaveral Deputy Director of Public Works, Lonnie Dunn. They have been placed throughout the Library to encourage re-cycling. Additional DVD Shelving New Security System for DVD's Re-location of Oversized books. Re-location of VHS tapes. Re-location of paperback books. Expanded Large Print collection. Re-location of the daily Friends Books and Magazines Sale. Children's new DVD stand. 2. Personal Appearances There were no Personal Appearances. 3._Unfinished Business A discussion about how to generate more money and bring in more patrons was postponed to the next Library Board Meeting. 4. Old Business a. Director's Report to the City will be postponed until the next Library Board Meeting. 03:05:B 5. New Business a. Interviews for appointment to the Library Advisory Board were held. Those interviewed were: Lynn Peppel & Marilyn Nicholas. Dr. Grady was not present to be interviewed. Jean Deck made a motion to have Marilyn Nicholas' name submitted to the Cape Canaveral City Council for appointment to the Cape Canaveral Library Advisory Board. Joanna Atwood seconded the motion. Joanna Atwood made a motion to have Lynn Peppel's name submitted to the Cape Canaveral City Council for appointment to the Cape Canaveral Library Advisory Board. Mary Ernst seconded the motion. Joanna Atwood suggested a letter to Dr.Tim Grady to thank him for the many years that he was Chairman of the Library Board. Linda Brown asked that Joanna Atwood to write a letter to Dr. Grady. b. Roof Replacement was discussed. Projected cost for replacement of the roof is$196,000. It is a roof re-design and re-construction. There was some discussion where this money would come from to pay for the roof. However,there is no resolution on this at this time. This will be re-visited at the next Library Board Meeting. 6. Announcements a.The next Cape Canaveral Public Library board Meeting will be held on Tuesday,July 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm at the Cape Canaveral Public Library Meeting Room. The next Brevard County Library Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 4:30 pm at Titusville Public Library. b. Libraries will be closed Monday May 28 to observe Memorial Day Holiday. 7. Adjournment Mary Ernst made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Jean Deck seconded the motion.
