1. Call to Order
The regular meeting of the Cape Canaveral Library Board was held Tuesday, May 11,
2010 and called to order by Joanna Atwood, Chairperson, at 2:08 pm.
The following Members were present:

Mary Ernst, 2nd Alternate

Linda Brown, Library Board Member
Isabel Matos-Escapa, Library Director

A. Approval of minutes
Linda Brown made a motion to approve the March 9, 2010 minutes
Mary Ernst seconded the motion.
Motion carried unanimously as approved and accepted.

C. Chairperson's Report
No report.

D. Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public Library Report
Jean Deck, Secretary, reported the Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public Library will
have a Mini-Book Sale Friday September 10, 2010 and Saturday September 11, 2010.
Jean Deck also reported that the Book Fund has a balance of$2,591.00. This includes a
$500.00 donation by the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary of Cape Canaveral. This
$500.00 will go towards the purchase of a new World Book Encyclopedia at a cost of
$750.00. The Friends of the Cape Canaveral Library will pay the additional $250.00.

The Friends of the Library will ask Marianne Ellis, to print book plates for the World
Book Encyclopedia
The Friends of the Library will arrange a small reception for the American legion ladies
Auxiliary when the books arrive.
The Friends of the Cape Canaveral Library held a meeting of the executive board on
Wednesday, May 5, 2020. Those present were Mary Ernst, Jean Deck and Joanna
Atwood. The purpose of the meeting was to review proposed expenditures of funds by
the Friends of the Library in the immediate future.
The Friends of the Library will donate $550.00 to the Youth Services Summer Reading
Program 2010 proposed by Cara Kincaid, Youth Services Librarian.
The Friends of the Library will donate funds to cover the cost of a combined Retirement
Party for Dot Kercher and Isabel Matos-Escapa.
E. Director's Report
Isabel Matos-Escapa,Director, Cape Canaveral Public Library reported that we still do not have a
Library Page. We lost the 17 hours—part-time Library Aide on 2/09/10. We gave four
additional hours to the Secretary,Technical Processor and the other Library Aide.
Circulation Supervisor,Pam Powers,retired on April 30. She moved to Tennessee. We hired
Wendy Orona as a Circulation Supervisor. She is full-time employee. Dot Kercher and I are still
planning to retire at the end of the fiscal year.
All members present received an Annual Volume of Work Report 2009-2010 from
October 2009 through April 2010 and Canaveral Public Library Activity Calendars for
April, May and June 2010/
} Storytime and Adult Programs continue.
None
III UNFINISHED BUSINESS
A. Election of Officers. There was a motion to delay at the last Library Board Meeting
because we did not have a full board in attendance. A replacement is needed for June
Bell. She has resigned. Linda Brown made a motion to elect Jean Deck as Secretary.
Tim Grady seconded the motion. The motion was carried unanimously.
B. Budget for FY 2010-2011. Isabel Matos-Escapa, Director, Cape Canaveral Public
Library, reported that we have started working with the next FY budget 2010-2011. The
budget is going to be tighter. We are still waiting to see if Mr.Rocky Randels,Mayor,City of
Cape Canaveral,will come up with the money that he promised to Mrs. Catherine J.
Schweinsberg,Library Services Director,and Stockton Whitten,Brevard County Assistant
County Manager when they met, so the Library could provide all the programs and services to the
patrons.
IV NEW BUSINESS
"R"rated DVD's. After some discussion about BCC-73 —Library Material Selection,
Mary Ernst made a motion to support BCC-73. Tim Grady seconded the motion. The
motion was carried unanimously.
Joanna Atwood asked Mr. Leo Nicholas if we can ask the City of Cape Canaveral to do a
referendum to increase millage rate to support the Cape Canaveral Library and what
would be a good time to do that. Mr. Nicholas suggested doing it as soon as possible.
Joanna Atwood asked if someone could draft a letter to The City Council of the City of
Cape Canaveral to put a referendum to the city population to increase millage for the
support of the Cape Canaveral Library. Joanna Atwood will draft a letter to the City of
Cape Canaveral and Brevard County Commissioners.

A. The next Cape Canaveral Public Library Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, July
13, 2010.
The next Brevard County Library Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 19,
2010 at 4:30 p.m. at the Titusville Public Library, 2121 South Hopkins Avenue,
Titusville, FL 32780.
Everyone is invited to attend the Board of County Commissioners Budget Workshop at
1:00 pm at the Government Center in Viera, FL.
Libraries will be closed Monday, May 31st, Memorial Day and July 4th and 5th for
Independence Day.
B. Adjournment
There being no further business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at 2:55pm.
