HomeMy WebLinkAbout05-20-2009 Minutes CAPE CANAVERAL PUBLIC LIBRARY Meeting Minutes May 20, 2009 1.Call to Order The meeting of the Cape Canaveral Library Board was held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 and called to order at 2:00 PM. The following Members were present: Joanna Atwood, Chairman Jean Deck, Vice Chairman June Bell, Secretary Mary Ernst, Library Board Member(1st Alternate) Harry Pearson, Library Board Member Linda Brown, Library Board Member(2nd Alternate) Isabel Matos-Escapa, Library Director Marianne Ellis, Recording Secretary A. Approval of minutes Joanna Atwood, Library Board Chairman noted a correction in Section III-B, Unfinished Business, Tentative Budget—2009-2010 in the last paragraph,the word "revenues" should be changed to "revenue". This correction is made to the April 2, 2009 Meeting minutes. Jean Deck, Secretary,made a motion to approve the April 2, 2009 minutes with correction. Mary Ernst, Vice Chairman, seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously as approved and accepted. B. Correspondence None C.Chairperson's Report { None—Joanna Atwood, Chairman encouraged Cape Canaveral Public Library Board members to send emails or letters to County Commission members to support our libraries. She also asked that Library Board members tell their friends to do the same. Linda Brown, Library Board member, suggested putting a note in local condo association newsletter supporting the libraries. She also suggested maybe schools would do the same. Linda Brown will draft a letter and Joanna Atwood will review it Linda Brown said that Barry Brown has a list of condo associations on the condo association website where Linda resides. Linda also suggested possibly putting flyers on bulletin boards. D. Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public Library Report The new DVD tower is in place now and is already almost full. E. Director's Report Isabel Matos-Escapa, Director, Cape Canaveral Public Library reported that she and staff of the Cape Canaveral Public Library have attended training and workshops. Training on the ADA Terminal was attended by Dee Livingstone, Reference Librarian and Wendy Orona, Reference Librarian on Friday, May 15. It has not been decided where this terminal will be installed. ADA requires that wherever the terminal is installed, it needs to provide knee spaces at least 24 in high, 30 in wide, and 19 inches deep. ADA Terminals are handicap-accessible PC terminal for our patrons. Isabel Matos-Escapa and Dee Livingstone attended a demonstration of Print & Management Reservation on Monday, April 27, at Central Brevard Library. Isabel reported that we have a complete staff at this time, plus one AARP person working 18 hours a week at the Reference Desk. Isabel reported that our volunteers gave us 313.5 volunteer hours in April, 2009. Isabel reported that we continue our Adult and Youth Services programs. Among these programs are 3'd Annual Space Day, Wednesday, May 27 at 10:30am for ages 3-8, and Summer Reading Program 2009 starting June 3`d Isabel thanked the Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public Library for all they do throughout the year and for our new DVD tower. II. PERSONAL APPEARANCES There were no Personal Appearances III. UNFINISHED BUSINESS IV. NEW BUSINESS A motion was made by Mary Ernst Library Board member, to cancel the July 14, 2009 Library Board Meeting. Jean Deck seconded the motion. V. ANNOUNCEMENTS A. The next Cape Canaveral Public Library Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 2:00p.m. at the Cape Canaveral Public Library Meeting Room. The next Brevard County Library Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, 955 University Blvd, Melbourne, FL 32901 All Libraries will be closed on July 3`d and 4th in observance of Independence Day. VI. ADJOURMENT There being no further business before the board Harry Pearson made a motion to adjourn. Mary Ernst seconded the motion. The meeting was adjourned at 3:17pm.
