Meeting Minutes September 9, 2008
1. Call to Order
The regular meeting of the Cape Canaveral Library Board was held Tuesday,
September 9, 2008 and called to order at 2:00 PM by the Library Board
Tim Grady, Chairman, Cape Canaveral Public Library Board. The following Members
were present:
Dr. Tim Grady, Chairman
Jim Brown, Library Board Vice Chairman
June Bell, Library Board Member
Jean Deck, Library Board Member
Mary Ernst, 2nd Alternate
Harry Pearson, 1st Alternate
Isabel Matos-Escapa, Library Director
Marianne Ellis, Recording Secretary
Also attending:
Diane Markum, Business and Cultural Development Board.
Shannon Roberts, Council Member, City of Cape Canaveral
A. Approval of minutes
Jean Deck made a motion to approve the May 13, 2008 minutes
Jim Brown seconded the motion.
Motion carried unanimously as approved and accepted.

B. Correspondence
A letter from James Brown, Library Board Vice Chairman, was received stating he would
resign as Library Board Vice Chairman when his term is up in October 2008.
A letter from Jean Deck, Library Board Member was received stating she would continue
to serve on the Cape Canaveral Library Board for another three year term.
An Application for Appointment to the City Library Advisory Board and a resume was
received from Joyce G. Kelley.
C. Chairperson's Report
No report.
D. Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public Library Report
Friends of the Cape Canaveral Library report that they are just waiting for the new
shelving to arrive for the library.
E. Director's Report
All members present received an Annual Volume of Work Report 2007-2008 from
October 2007 through July 2008 and Canaveral Public Library Activity Calendars for
August and September 2008.
Storytime and Adult Programs continue.
Additional shelving is in progress. The Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public Library
will pay for the shelving.
Isabel Escapa, Director, Cape Canaveral Library is happy to announce that, even with
budget cuts, we were able to hold on to two (2) vacant positions. Interviewing for the
Reference Librarian position will begin next week and the advertising for the Library
Aide position ends today(September 9, 2008). Candidate's applications are expected
next week.
Children's' and Adult Programs continue.
John Cummings has advised that all new shelving has been received and installation will
begin when it can be coordinated not to affect service to our patrons. This will possibly
be the end of this month.
LS Procedures one (1) through three(3), five (5)through six (6), eight(8) through eleven
(11) and thirteen (13) have been reviewed and approved. LS-4 is ready to go to the
Board for approval and LS-14 was put on hold until next meeting pending further
information from State Library.
Because there will be no Reading Festival in February 2009, individual Libraries will
have a Literary Festival. The month of February 2009 will host a series of activities and
events.

All Cape Canaveral Library Board members and Friends of the Cape Canaveral Public
Library are invited to attend the Brevard County Library Board Meeting held at the Cape
Canaveral Public Library on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 5:00pm.
The Blood Drive, sponsored by the City of Cape Canaveral is scheduled for Friday,
September 19, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. —4:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the library.
Various discount coupons will be offered.

None
III UNFINISHED BUSINESS
There has been no word regarding the use of the Meeting Room by the City of Cape
Canaveral.
Budget cuts in the amount of$2,011,666 required cutting eleven (11) positions. Camille
Johnson, Director of Central Brevard Library and Reference Center, will be retiring at the
end of September. Her duties will be assumed by Catherine Schweinsberg. All staff at
Riverhouse will be moved the Central Brevard Library and Reference Center and the
Riverhouse will be sold or leased.
The media budget for all libraries was reduced from $1,640,755 to $1,108,820.
The Friends of the Library have promised to help us buy Stellar Sellers, DVDs, etc.
Inter-Library Loans will be discontinued. Alternatives will be offered to patrons.
The final budget will be approved in September 2008. Our fiscal year ends Tuesday,
September 30, 2008.

V ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. The next Cape Canaveral Public Library Board Meeting will be held on Tuesday,
November 11, 2008 at 2:00p.m. at the Cape Canaveral Public Library Meeting Room.
The next Brevard County Library Board Meeting will be held on September 17, 2008 at
5:00 p.m. at Cape Canaveral Public Library meeting room, 201 Polk Ave., Cape
Canaveral, FL 32920.
B. Adjournment
There being no further business before the Board, the meeting was adjourned at
2:55 pm.
