RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD
CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA
May 21, 2007
Members Present: Harvey Renshaw, John Datillo, Connie Troutman, Gene Petre
Members Absent: Regina Mead, Marianne Kulac-Taiani
Others Present: Robert Lefever, Director of Parks & Recreation
Joanne Muncey, Vice Chair of Business & Cultural Development Board
Shannon Roberts, Council Member- City of Cape Canaveral
Chairman Harvey Renshaw called the meeting to order at 5:32 PM. Chairman Renshaw
asked for a moment of silence in memory of Director Nancy Hanson.
John Datillo moved and Connie Troutman seconded the motion to accept the minutes of
the March 26, 2007 as written. The motion was unanimously approved by all members
present.
Robert Lefever advised the Recreation Advisory Board of his appointment of Director of
Parks and Recreation for the City of Cape Canaveral and was effective May 2, 2007.
Director Lefever made a presentation of his background in the field of recreation,
education and family.
Director Robert Lefever reviewed the Recreation Department Budget.
Director Robert Lefever presented the Recreation Department Report which included:
1. Parks & Recreation Department quarterly report.
2. Athletic league participation for the first quarter of 2007.
3. Gator Bill reptile show report.
4. Community celebration of March 17, 2007.
5. New employee — Erin Burns ( part time ) effective May 2, 2007.
6. Nancy Hanson memorial
7. Budget will reflect a 20% decrease for the Parks & Recreation Department without
any public programs suffering from cuts.
8. Banana River Park has been used only for soccer and that an adult soccer club has
been organized to steer additional participation.
9. Capeview Park — addition of two pieces of playground equipment.
10. Manatee Sanctuary Park drainage improvements have been made.
11. Horseshoe Club play on Wednesday's (during winter months) had 20-30
participants.
12. Community celebration plans are to have a spring and fall celebration.

Unfinished Business — None
New Business — discussion and suggestions were made to honor Nancy Hanson.
A motion was made by Gene Petre and seconded by John Datillo to re -name the
Recreation Department Building to the Nancy Hanson Recreation Complex and have a
memorial plaque mounted at an appropriate location inside the building. The motion
was unanimously approved by all members present.
Joanne Muncey, Vice Chair of the Cape Canaveral Cultural Board addressed the Board
regarding her concerns about the future of Cherie Down Park. Gene Petre commented
that no position has been taken by this Board, since insufficient information has been
received from the City of Cape Canaveral or any of its officials.
Shannon Roberts, Member of City Council addressed the Board with regard to the
various city boards overlapping and the need for visioning sessions.
No further discussion requests from any Board members.
Gene Petre moved and seconded by Connie Troutman that this meeting be adjourned.
The motion was passed unanimously by the members present and adjourned at 6:35
PM.
An announcement was made by Chairman Harvey Renshaw that he was leaving the
area and resigning as Chairman and Board Member.
