Chairperson John Dattilo called the meeting to order at 5:03pm at the City Hall
Annex.
Eileen Kandret made motion to approve the October 29, 2007 minutes as written, Gene Petre
seconded and motion was unanimously approved by all members present.
Motion to approve a history of Cape Canaveral display at Manatee Sanctuary Park by Ray
Osbourne was unanimously approved by the Board.
Director Robert Lefever reviewed the Recreation Department budget.
Director Robert Lefever presented the Recreation Department Report which included:
1. Adult Flag Football League was very successful in October, good participation.
2. Adult Co-ed Softball League began its' 4th season on October 25th (6 teams).
3. Youth Center numbers are steady & strong. The kids are really starting to buy into the
Recreation Leaders & their programming style. October — 385 (average per day - 15)
4. Free Tennis Lessons are being offered to Kids' ages 8-14 on Tuesday afternoons from
3:30 pm — 4:30 pm. 45 kids participated in October.
5. Safety improvements were made to the little League Baseball Field by adding Poly Cap
Fence Guards to the outfield fences.
6. Programs at the Recreation Center, along with the Tennis & Racquetball Leagues
remain strong. Out Belly Dance Classes relocated to another facility, so currently we
are looking for a replacement program.
7. Canaveral City Park Playground opened to the public on November 22nd. There are still
areas that need to be completed:
• Pavilion Renovation
• Drinking Fountain Hook-up
• Security Lighting
• Restroom Renovation
8. The Fall Festival took place on Saturday, October 13th form 11:00am — 2:00
pm.Approximately 800 people attended. Kiwanis Club raised over $400.00.
9. The Monster Mash Halloween Party was held on Tuesday, October 30th from 6:30pm —
8:00pm. Approximately 150 attended. The event had to be moved inside the Recreation
Center due to inclement weather.
Report: Gene Petre complemented the Parks and Recreation Director, Robert Lefever on
his exceptional organizational skills especially on the Fall Festival.
Unfinished buss- Signage for the Nancy Hanson ReLTeation Complex. The lighted sign
on N. Atlantic Avenue will have bold black font. The sign on the building will have the
signature.
New Business: The naming of Cape Canaveral City Park. Chris Hale made motion
seconded by Gene Petre to have the Director Robert Lefever discuss the possibility of a
naming contest involving the Cape View Elementary School students with Principal Sharon
Horton.
Gene Petre made motion seconded by Chris Hale to have the Recreation Director
implement recommended signage for Cape Canaveral City Park as presented with one
exception. Under sentence #2, would like to see the word equipment added to read
"observe rules and equipment age restrictions.
Reports: Eileen Kandret said the Kiwanis Club presented a check for $540.00 to the Cape
View Elementary School PTO from the Fall Festival. She also added that she would like to
see the Recreation Department sponsor a summer Health Fair for Children which would
include immunizations before school starts. Gene Petre agreed and would like to have
health and safety issues added.
Open: Gene Petre would like to start all future meetings at 5:30pm. Carol Delano moved
and seconded by Eileen Kandret. All members present voted for John Dattilo against.
Motion carried.
No further discussion requested were made by any Board Member.
Gene Petre moved and seconded by Chris Hale that the meeting be adjourned. The motion
was passed unanimously among Members present and the meeting was adjourned at
6:28PM.
