HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 12-05-2005CITY OF CAPE CANAVERAL COMMUNITY APPEARANCE BOARD DECEMBER 5, 2005 MINUTES A meeting of the City of Cape Canaveral Community Appearance Board was held on December 5, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the City Hall Annex, 111 Polk Avenue, Cape Canaveral, Florida. The meeting was called to Order by Chairperson Wasserman at 7:00 p.m. The Recording Secretary called the roll. NEW BUSINESS 1. Approval of Meeting Minutes: November 21, 2005 Motion by Ms. Moore, seconded by Ms. Schaffner to approve the meeting minutes of November 21, 2005, as written. Vote on the motion carried unanimously. 2. Request No. 05 -74 —Cabo Verde Condominiums — 6395 N. Atlantic Ave. —Roger Combs, Applicant. Roger Combs, project director, presented the submittal and photos for the Board's review. Mr. Combs testified that this is the second time the proposed condominium project has been presented to the Board; due to some changes in the design. Mr. Combs stated that they are no longer proposing to build condominiums in the commercial area, and the access road has changed to have only one entrance off of Holman Road. Cathy Hadaway, HCI Planning & Land Development Consultant, presented an overview of the proposed project. Ms. Hadaway stated that the buildings would be placed carefully to preserve as many of the trees as possible and the hard wood trees that would have to be removed, would be replaced or replanted. In addition to the natural features, the property would be heavily landscaped with the proposed plan greatly exceeding the landscape and the tree preservation requirements of the City. Community Appearance Board Meeting Minutes December 5, 2005 Page 2 Ms. Hadaway further stated that the green roofs on this project were designed to blend with the landscape and with the rich earth tone colors of the buildings. The main color of the buildings is Blonde with the trim in Sandbank and Antique White. Susan Hall, landscape architect, presented the landscape plan to the Board. Ms. Hall stated that this project would have very heavy, tropical landscape. Building "A" would have courtyards with tall palms in the front, clusters of palms on the corners, and shade trees at the entrance. Ms. Hall further stated that native plants and trees would be used along the walks and the main entrance, with tall palms and bands of color in the motor court. Motion by Ms. Moore, seconded by Ms. Schaffner to approve Request No. 05 -74 as presented. Discussion followed. Vote on the motion carried unanimously. 3. Request No. 05 -75 — Sign (Starbeach Condominiums) — 401 Monroe Ave. Go Signs, Applicant. Mike Gulick, owner of Go Signs, presented the submittals and photos for the proposed sign. Mr. Gulick stated that the sign would be a white background with burgundy lettering and a small portion of yellow for the sun. Mr. Gulick further stated that the wall sign would be made of PVC material. The Board reviewed the submittal packet and photographs of the site. Brief discussion followed. Motion by Ms. Moore, seconded by Ms. Schaffner to approve Request No. 05 -75 as presented. Vote on the motion carried unanimously. Discussion: The Board discussed their option regarding receiving their agenda packets electronically or by mail. The general consensus of the Board was that they are willing to embrace technology and try the electronic agenda, packets with the idea that they can always go back to the paper packets.
