HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 01-26-2010RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD CAPE CANAVERAL LIBRARY MEETING ROOM 201 POLK AVENUE Tuesday, January 26, 2010 MEMBERS PRESENT: Carol Delano, John Dattilo, Eileen Kandret, Stephanie Robinson MEMBERS ABSENT: Doug Raymond OTHERS PRESENT: Robert Lefever, Director of Parks & Recreation Joyce Hamilton, Kiwanis Club Andrea Binney, Recreation Coordinator The meeting was called to order at 5:30. The 2010 Chair Elections were held; Chairperson- Gene Petre Vice Chairperson- Stephanie Robinson. Robert Lefever presented his director report from November and December. There was a discussion regarding the Video of Visioning Session. The board thinks there are too many boards for the City. They liked the idea of shops, umbrella tables downtown, bike path and restaurants. Central Boulevard expansion had the most changes and they think the city should purchase the vacant lots. They wondered why there were no pictures of recreation of the CD. Gene Petre thought that dog parks are too expensive for recreation budget. Gene Petre and Stephanie Robinson will be attending the Visioning meeting on February 23. The board thinks there is a need for a new building for the youth center. A 4,000 sq. ft. building could be used for a multitude of usages. Robert said he would look into it. Joyce commented that the Cape View Elementary School students had included a new youth center building in their Visioning Session. Director Robert Lefever reported that the progress on the upcoming Friday Fest Family Street Party was going very well and we should be ready for the first Friday Fest on March 5th. Gene Petre mentioned that he was happy with the Petre family plaque he had installed on the life trail at Manatee Sanctuary Park. Joyce Hamilton said she to was interested in buying one. Robert said he would pass along the information to the other boards. Eileen Kandret expressed an interest in having a community vegetable garden in the city like Freedom 7 Senior Center use to have. Judy Hale replied that her board had looked into it but you would have to have water and there were no vacant city land available. With no further business to conduct, the chair adjourned the meeting at 7:20PM. The next Recreation Advisory Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 2314 an, Secretary Gene Petre, Chairperson
