The 2010 Chair Elections were held;
Chairperson- Gene Petre
Vice Chairperson- Stephanie Robinson.
Robert Lefever presented his director report from November and December.
There was a discussion regarding the Video of Visioning Session. The board thinks there
are too many boards for the City. They liked the idea of shops, umbrella tables
downtown, bike path and restaurants. Central Boulevard expansion had the most changes
and they think the city should purchase the vacant lots. They wondered why there were
no pictures of recreation of the CD. Gene Petre thought that dog parks are too expensive
for recreation budget. Gene Petre and Stephanie Robinson will be attending the Visioning
meeting on February 23.
The board thinks there is a need for a new building for the youth center. A 4,000 sq. ft.
building could be used for a multitude of usages. Robert said he would look into it. Joyce
commented that the Cape View Elementary School students had included a new youth
center building in their Visioning Session.
Director Robert Lefever reported that the progress on the upcoming Friday Fest Family
Street Party was going very well and we should be ready for the first Friday Fest on
March 5th.
Gene Petre mentioned that he was happy with the Petre family plaque he had installed on
the life trail at Manatee Sanctuary Park. Joyce Hamilton said she to was interested in
buying one. Robert said he would pass along the information to the other boards.
Eileen Kandret expressed an interest in having a community vegetable garden in the city
like Freedom 7 Senior Center use to have. Judy Hale replied that her board had looked
into it but you would have to have water and there were no vacant city land available.
With no further business to conduct, the chair adjourned the meeting at 7:20PM. The next
