HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 09-29-08• RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD CITY HALL ANNEX, 111 POLK AVENUE MONDAY, September 29, 2008 5:30 PM MEMBERS PRESENT: John Dattilo, Gene Petre, EileenKandret, Hank Dinenno , Carol Delano, Chris Hale. MEMBERS ABSENT: OTHERS PRESENT Robert Lefever, Director of Parks & Recreation Shannon Roberts, Cape Canaveral City Council Member Joyce Hamilton, Kiwanis Club Charlene Neuterman, Police Athletic League Stephanie Robinson Fran Norman, Board Secretary Chairperson John Dattilo called the meeting to order at 5:30. The board unanimously approved to adopt the minutes of the Regular Meeting on July 28, 2008. Director Robert Lefever reviewed the Recreation Department Budget and his monthly report. He touched briefly on the success of the Boot Camp held at Manatee Sanctuary Park, and possibly moving the Summer Camp to the Youth Center next year. Charlene Neuterman informed the Board as to what the PAL program would bring to the youth of Cape Canaveral. They will learn leadership skills and build respect for the community and themselves. The PAL kickoff party on Saturday, November 15th from 12:00 to 5:00pm will showcase the Youth Center. PAL will have an information table, the Brevard County Traveling skate park will be there and a D.J. will also be present. The board interviewed prospective board member, Stephanie Robinson. A move was made by Gene and seconded by Eileen to recommend that the City Council appoint Stephanie to the Recreation Board. DISCUSSION: The Board discussed the topic regarding being re -interviewed if they wish to renew their terms. Two of the members did not feel it was necessary they thought it would discourage new people to volunteer, nonetheless they would do it. The other three members and the alternate thought it would be a positive experience for both them and the council. The board also thought a survey might also serve as the same type of tool. • • The Board agreed that the two kids who vandalized the play ground be prosecuted. One confessed and told the name of his accomplice and four other kids were witnesses. These two kids have a record of vandalism and this is the right message to send to the other kids. Motion was made by Eileen Kandret and seconded by Gene Petre to move the November meeting to the 17th.Gene Petre moved and seconded by Carol Delano that the meeting be adjourned. The motion passed unanimously by members present. Chairman John Dattilo announced the next Recreation Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 17, 2008.
