21 and a high number of players at 130 raising $621.28 for the Recreation Dept.
• The Community Health Fair attracted approximately 200 people. Participation was
down from other years, due in large part to the increase of Health Fairs around the
area & the large availability of flu shots to the public.
• The Tennis Jamboree sponsored & funded by the United States Tennis Association
was the kick start for our newest tennis program called "Quick Start". There were
over 35 kids between the ages of 5-10 who participated and they enjoyed games,
lessons prizes & pizza.
• The PAL Kick -Off Party was a huge success with 150 kids & adults attending. This
event was held at the Youth Center & included the Traveling Skate Park, a DJ, and
obstacle course, a giant slide, finger printing by BSO, The BSO Command Center,
and a K-9 demonstration. Free hot dogs, chips & a drink were provided by the

Parents completed a questionnaire about their kids & their Christmas list wishes,
resulting in 20 letters from the North Pole being mailed out.
Signs for the newly named Sandpiper Park Playground are displayed at the north & south
entrances. The winner & finalists of the contest will be recognized at a dedication
ceremony which will be scheduled during our Annual Egg Hunt.
CONSIDERATIONS:
3. Elections were held: The new Chairperson is Hank Dinenno.
The new Vice Chairperson is Carol Delano.
DISCUSSION:
4. There was a discussion regarding charging a usage fee for Manatee Sanctuary Park to
the Annual Art Festival. Gene stated that TNT Events charges $159.00 per vendor space
and they had 50 vendors last year. Chris questioned why the Business & Cultural
Development Board turned the art show over to TNT and why they don't recuperate
some of the money. Robert responded that he look into it and report back.
5. Robert stated that the Recreation Department would retain 25% of the Reindeer Run
proceeds next year because of expenses and staff salaries. The board unanimously agreed.
Robert said we need to make changes "think outside the box" think of the future of our
special events which direction we want to go in. Any revenue generating ideas should be
brought to the next meeting. The Board agreed we need to start charging for our Special
Events.
Robert announced that on Saturday, March 21st we will show our first Movie in the Park
at Manatee Sanctuary Park. The feature movie will be "Igor" and the show begins at
7:00pm.
Gene suggested offering Music in the Park. Maybe get some local bands to donate their
time or pay a nominal fee.
