HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 10-19-2009• • RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD CITY HALL ANNEX, 111 POLK AVENUE MONDAY, October 19, 2009 MEMBERS PRESENT: Hank Dinenno, Carol Delano, John Dattilo, Eileen Kandret, Stephanie Robinson, Doug Raymond MEMBERS ABSENT: Gene Petre OTHERS PRESENT: Robert Lefever, Director of Parks & Recreation Joyce Hamilton, Kiwanis Club Andrea Binney, Recreation Coordinator Fran Norman, Board Secretary The meeting was called to order at 5:30 by chairperson, Hank Dinenno. Doug Raymond moved and John Dattilo seconded the motion to accept the minutes of the August 24, 2009 meeting. Motion was unanimously approved by all members present. Robert Lefever presented his director report from September and October. Robert announced that this would be the last Recreation Board meeting to be held at the Annex. November will begin the new meeting at the Library. January will be our next meeting and Mondays are not available because it is the only evening the library is open. There was a discussion as to which night the board wanted the meeting to be held. Carol Delano moved and Stephanie Robinson seconded to have the meetings on Tuesdays every other month at 5:30 pm. Motion was unanimously approved by all members present. Robert gave a status report regarding the Estuary Grant Project involving the City -owned property at the western end of Long Point Road. The first phase will be the clearing of Brazilian pepper trees, replacing them with buttonwood trees and mangroves which are native plants. This property will make a first class City Park with restrooms, a boardwalk "loop" to the Banana River as well as an educational kiosk and nature identification plaques. Robert announced that Sheriff Jack Parker has allocated monies for the Cape Canaveral PAL/ Youth Center to purchase new equipment and has arranged for the building to be painted and a new awning installed on the front of the building. Robert thanked the board members; Carol Delano, Eileen Kandret and Stephanie Robinson for all the work they did to enter the Chili Cook Off. Stephanie said it was a lot of fun and she was sorry they didn't win. leer Robert announced that our major printer sponsor for the Reindeer Run dropped out on the day we would have gone to print. Pioneer Printing has offered to help but that we might need to have a brochure folding party by this Friday. Joyce asked how the new tables and chairs donated by Boston Beef & Seafood were working out at the Youth Center. Andi answered that the kids are very happy with them. Joyce also added that the student council from Cape View Elementary School will be joining our City Council Members for a mock council meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 pm. Robert explained that this was part of Government Week. The students participated in their own version of Envision Cape Canaveral by holding an art contest and that at the winner and runner up would be announced at the council meeting. He also stated that Ray Osbourne the city historian had a video set up at the library which runs continually. With no further business to conduct, the chair adjourned the meeting at 6:10.
